    Effects on Tascam 2488

Weird - mine goes up to 100 though I only use them on recorded tracks not input channels but I assume it's the same?

    Effects on Tascam 2488

I think the insert (MIC) compressors go up to 4:1 don't they? (it's confusing that the ratio control goes from 0-100 - I always have to refer to 2488 guide I got from the tascam user forums! Thanks whoever wrote that!). But yes, they can be assigned to the inputs or tracks.

    multitrack recorders just under $1000?

I'd echo with Nicole said. I have had a 2488 for a couple of years and never had any problems (*touches wood*). Sound quality is pretty good and the unit is quite flexible. The CD burner does take forever but I tend not to use it and it has been upgraded on the mkII.

Who's Influenced Your Style/Tone The Most?

Wow someone quoting Tegan & Sara AND Dresden Dolls as influences - makes a nice change from the usual suspects. I saw T&S last week. Excellent gig. The Con is a really fine album too. My band recorded an acoustic version of This Is Everything so I guess they sorta influenced us. I adore the...

    Tascam DP02 CD problem

What sample rate and bit depth is the wav file?

Is this speaker arrangement a problem?

The amount of adjustment is quite subtle but it did help me eliminate a bit of boomy low end most likely caused by my speakers being a little bit closer than I would like to the back wall (small room) I have to say I was extremely impressed with the amount of detail these monitors revealed - I...

Is this speaker arrangement a problem?

The VL-X5s have dip switches that allow you to re-configure them for "less than ideal" placements (see manual). I also have a pair and very nice they are too!

do u prefer to run your final mix trough a limiter or compressor?

Timely that someone bumped this thread as I've been reading about this a lot recently. It seems that many mastering studios recommend not using any compression on the stereo buss, only on individual tracks, and set the level conservatively to avoid overloads. Personally, I think subtle...

    What Posters In Your Studio?

Tank Girl and Run Lola Run film posters, a Wildhearts "Urge" single promo, and a large poster of Courtney Love from the Amercia's Sweetheart era staring back at me whenever I'm at the mixer ;)

MultiFx for around a couple hundred bucks.

I have an MX200 and it's truly excellent. Sonically rich with an intuitive interface and very flexible. I honestly haven't seen or heard anything that can compete with it at this price point.

Running a Solid State amp with no input

Cheers. I'll bare that in mind. So far seems OK though.

Running a Solid State amp with no input

No, I mean input. To clarify, as there seems to be a few confused people, I am not disconnecting the speaker, only severing (temporarily) the connection between the pre amp and power amp.

Running a Solid State amp with no input

After discussing the issue with another tech-friendly guitar player today I have concluded that the power amp will see an input of infinite impedance (i.e open circuit) and that this should not cause a problem. Thanks for all your replies

Running a Solid State amp with no input

Thanks for your comments. We ran it for a short time with the power amp bypassed last night as planned. No problems so far.

Running a Solid State amp with no input

The title may sound a little crazy but hear my out... I am planning in recording a old Peavey Bandit 65 by patching the Pre Amp Out through a H&K Red Box. In order not to annoy my neighbours I need to mute the sound coming from the speaker. I can do this by inserting a dummy cable into the...

    Best/Favorite SOLID STATE Amp (poll)

Seconded! Wouldn't swap my Trademark 60 for anything, valve or SS

    Recording Bass Direct

The ground lift has absolutely zero effect. The cables works fine with other gear (including the Sansamp output in my TM60). Given the low cost of these items it's quite possiblly a QA issue but just as likely a design fault. Regardless, for £25 I can't complain and as I only use it for...

    Recording Bass Direct

I was writing a bass line last night using my BDI21 and then switched to some POD XT bass models on my PC to put down a rough take. I can honestly say the Behringer pisses all over the Line 6 tone. OK so that BDI probably doesn't have the range of sounds and nor does it have the FX options but...

    Effects for recording

Ahh no worries. I sold my POD 2.0 but I still have a Line 6 Toneport UX1 which uses the models from the POD XT range. They are pretty good though I prefer to use my amp for actually recording which I record dry and then add FX at the desk
