You can hook up the FD4 to the computer with midi cables; that will allow you to use Cakewalk to control the FD4. You can't, however, transfer tracks via midi cables. I think the FD-4 has digital audio outputs, if this is true, you could record the tracks into cakewalk two at a time, assuming...

    bit conversion programs

One of the main advantages of using 24 bits, when the final output is 16, is that you can record at lower levels, and still have more than 16 bits of information, wheras if you started recording at 16 bits, unless you use the full range of the 16 bits (and therefore risk major, audible...

    vocals to Cakewalk

Your computer probably has a soundcard (the thing that makes the various noises that you hear from the computer) in the back. See this page: http://www.homerecording.com/sound_card_basics.html As far as midi is concerned, Cakewalk has a function to figure out midi messages from an audio...

    .CDA !?

I researched this a bit... no there isn't a cda FILE on the cd... there are no files on an audio cd, just tracks (not the same thing, either). William "Taking Eddie's Bait" Underwood : )

Need some help-- trying to make distinction...

If the soundcard uses normal windows wave drivers (and all pc soundcards do), then yes, you'll hear all the little bleeps and blurps. However: windows' sound effects are recorded at 32khz, while most audio recording is done at 44.1 or 48 khz. Without going into details, this can cause...

How to sync cakewalk to ASR X Pro?

okay, now I feel guilty : ) On page 97 of the reference manual for the ASR, it should show you how to set the ASR to either master or slave mode. Which ever one you set it to, you have to set cakewalk to the opposite (under tools | Project Options | Sync, set it to MIDI to set cakewalk in...

    .CDA !?

In other words, it isn't an actual file on the cd. Thanks! William "Whose Brain Has Now Returned From a Nice Long Vacation" Underwood

    what's the benefits of midi?

yes, you can do pretty much whatever you like with it once it's recorded. A patch is the sound that is played: I could record a piece of music with a piano patch, and then tell the computer to play it back with a string patch.

    .CDA !?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but cda files are a figment of windows' imagination, correct? I've seen several references to conversions between wav and cda formats today, and I'm starting to doubt myself : ) William "Who's Been Thinking About This Too Much" Underwood

    Liquid Audio

Use MP3! : ) sorry, I don't know anything about liquid audio, except that it isn't nearly as widespread as mp3.

    Let's make a home studio?!

Most software multitrackers (including cakewalk) will mix down multiple tracks to a stereo output on playback. Translation: the soundcard doesn't have to do the work. That's why people can do multitrack recording with a 20 dollar soundcard. Many (most?) soundcards will have midi ports built...

How to invert a stereo track in Cake 9?

Ugh, I'm not familiar with PA9, but you should be able to select the track, go to Tools | Mixdown Audio. It should give you an option to mix down to a stereo track, or to two mono tracks. Choose the second. Now with the two mono tracks, reverse their respective pans, then select them, and mix...

    Cakewalk Pro 8

What kinds of problems are you having with the audio & midi? It's hard to troubleshoot a problem if you don't know what the problem is :) On a hunch, I'm going to suggest that you set the sync to 'audio', if you haven't done so already: go to Tools | Project Options, and under 'Source', set...

Help!! Do I need both a soundcard and digital interface?

The midiman should be able to do whatever a 'regular' sound card can do; you should be fine. :) William Underwood

Playing and recording with one Soundcard at the same time?

Pretty much any 20$ soundcard... in the volume control, uncheck the line-in box in playback controls. You just have to make sure that whatever is being recorded doesn't get played back; this shouldn't be a problem with most sound cards. William Underwood

    Cakewalk 8 problem. Please help.

Have you tried playing around with "Audio Options" menu? In the advanced pane, try increasing the number of record buffers and/or the number of file i/o buffers. Hope this helps William Underwood
