    Is the IUMA still around?

My answer would be "barely' and qualified with "only sometimes". AFAIK the site is still there but it hasn't worked right for quite some time now and generally speaking I would stay away from it.

New song from Lykwyd Chykyn -rough mix, please check

Wow! these are great critiques guys. I'm going to copy them down and paste them into my todo list; seriously. As for the high notes, I *am* straining for them, pretty badly in fact. I have a bad habit of writing something and then after I get halfway into it changing it around so that I'm not...

New song from Lykwyd Chykyn -rough mix, please check

I'm looking for some opinions on this mix of this song. Yeah the vocals are a bit rough, that's a given with me. Anyway, let me know... http://www.alandmoore.com/lc/aud/suburbia.mp3 Thanks!

watcha think of my new website?

I just subscribe to the notion that a site can never load too fast. And always have text-based navigation. Even if you have graphical navigation, have alternative links with just text. Nothing stinks like waiting for a graphic to load on page A just so you can find the link to get to page B...

    Logo Sample

I agree; looks good. I assume you're adding more to the site than what's there now?

watcha think of my new website?

I just gotta agree about losing the imagemaps. The site just loads so dang slow over here in the States. And 80% of your site is just basic text with basic fonts, so why on earth wouldn't you do text? Save your bandwidth for something important, like your music. :) And adding rollover effects...

Want to do piano and strings/synths but not a player

Depends on a lot of things. First off, for drum programming, keyboard skills are irrelevent. You can read a tutorial I wrote here which may answer some questions about that. Secondly, what kind of keyboard stuff do you want? Techno type stuff? Pads? Rockin Piano parts? Screaming B3...

    I need some help here!

I'm not sure where to send it, but I believe gracenote handles CDDB data. www.gracenote.com. That might be a place to start.

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

I agree; you can get all kinds of things freeware or open source these days, if you really need the features of commercial software, you should pay. I paid $59 for cakewalk home studio a few years ago on closeout, and used it for a good year doing paid projects until I could upgrade to Sonar...

a fender that no one plays?

I saw one once and wanted to buy it, but sadly I had not the money and had to pass. Kind of weird looking. Isn't it Toronado, or am I wrong?

Parallel 5ths & 8ths. Do you like them?

Hehe... aww shucks aaron; though I don't think you want to wish for that when you're "one step away from stardom". That's about the point where my career bit the dust... I wish you better success!

    Advice on lava lamps needed

My lavalamp has just burnt out; I'm thinking of replacing the factory bulb anyway, I've heard it gets a warmer look and keeps the goo a little more cohesive if you use russian bulbs in them. Anyone know a source?

Parallel 5ths & 8ths. Do you like them?

I think people misunderstand the rule about parallel 5th and octaves and act like it's a stupid rule because they take it out of the context of harmonizing distinct voices. Two power chords, IMHO, do not really amount to parallel 5ths or octaves, because to the ear a power chord is perceived as...

    Record companies

This has got to be one of the biggest questions around here. I've been thinking about it lately, and it seems to me that the real problem that a lot of people have when tackling this is that they come at it from a task-oriented point of view rather than a goal-oriented point of view. I mean...

Just a few casual SONAR questions!

One way to save fx chains is to use vb audio's ffx-4 to load in your fx. Then you can save the chain with all the settings as a preset. The free version only loads 4 effects, but I find that to be plenty for most applications. it's at www.vb-audio.com

    live stage performance tips anyone?

Best thing that ever happened to my old band was getting a video of a seminar by a guy named Tom Jackson. This guy has got a system for putting together a setlist that works every time. The basic gist of it is that you have a certain curve to the show's intensity -- you start out medium, take...
