    registering a name?

Are you talking about registering a domain name for the internet, or trademarking your band name? Or something else? What is it you're trying to do?

Ok. Best B3 emulation/Best Rhodes emulation.

Decent freebies: mda epiano 4front rhode RT ZR-3 Another decent cheap plugin that used to be free is called NUBI. It's still in development but even the betas sound good. Much cheaper than B4. In case money is an issue. :)

    experimental music

Check out Csound. If you want to make real experimental music, like the kind only college profs listen to. I had to take a semester on it way back when I was in college studying music technology and 20th century music. I think Sloan hit it on the head, though. It's experimental. Back before...

Kick a$$ DAW vs. antiquated ADATs

The Mic, the pre, the Room, and the converters are all important in recording a vocal, you've got better converters, but what about the rest? And let's not forget the most important part: The vocalist needs to feel comfortable and confident. If he's out of his element and feels it, it...

    Soft Synth bare bones setup

jeskola Buzz is another free host for VSTi, DXi, and it's own native soft synths. Very low overhead, I can run more stuff at a much lower latency on Buzz than I can in Sonar. It's a little old and the interface takes some getting used to, but it's quite powerful nontheless. www.buzzmachines.com

    Taxi!

That's why I seriously considered joining it a few years back. But it seems like 90% of what shows up in their lists is some record label or another looking for artists -- NOT material. I was basically looking for some connections for music library and TV licensing. There were maybe 2 or 3...

    Old Songs

Honestly, a set of lyrics and $1.50 might get you a cup of coffee (well, not at starbucks). If you get anything worthwhile I'll be surprised. That's no insult to you as a writer, it's just that creating is the easy part. Getting your creations into a scenario to make some money, that's the...

Worst Piece(s) of Gear You've Purchased

I bought an ART T-28 attack module guitar combo several years back, paid way too much for it. I spent years telling myself it was a good sounding amp. Ugh. What crap. I was so into bells and whistles at that point, I bought it for the built in fx and the cool carbon-fiber cab. Oh and the...

    Akg 240s vs akg 240m

After seven years of service and about a dozen re-solderings, my trusty AKG headphones have died. :( Since I dig the sound of them, I wanted to replace them with either the AKG 240s's or the AKG 240m's, but I can't figure out what the difference is between them. Somewhere I read the k240s...

Promotion!!!!!!!!!!! How to do w/small budget?

I don't know about 4 months; I know the labels do that, but for an independent act I think it's different. The reason is, you really need 4 months of solid, non-stop promotion, and I doubt you could sustain meaningful promotion for 4 months as an indy act. When I did indy stuff, I didn't...

Promotion!!!!!!!!!!! How to do w/small budget?

Depending on your location, I wouldn't put the bulk of your money, or even a significant chunk, into internet promotion; instead, spend it on local promotion. Better yet, put it in the bank and use it to cover the expenses of putting on a free show or two.

"Bag of toys" sounds like a good name to me. I think you did well, robert.

I need to build WEBSITE for Band....

I agree with scott. Spend a little money and do it right. You can get a URL for the price of a large pizza these days (man, back when I was doing the band thing it was like $70 a year, and hosting about $20 a month!). If this is a serious band whatsoever, there's no reason not to drop the...

    Guitar chords for keyboard players

I must concur with mikeh. I've yet to hear MIDI or sampled guitar done well. I've tried, but I just don't get the same results. I've run guitar samples through my POD, even an amp, used the right voicings, etc. Just doesn't sound right. The attack is all wrong, and the notes don't blend...

    Buzz Feiten Tuning

I've got a washburn electric with it; I've enjoyed it, though since all the other guitars I've owned are basically crap, I don't have much to compare with. I do a lot of recording with synths, but I don't feel the guitar is that much more "in tune" with the keys than any other guitar...
