    good mic for all drums?

You could look at the M-Audio Luna or Solaris. Massive Master said he uses two Solarises on drums, and the only other mic with his setup is usually a bass drum mic. He put up a clip of what I believe was a jazz band that he recorded performing with just the two Solarises, and even with...

    Shure PG57???

Why not just get the real thing? It really doesn't cost much more.

    Best Multi Purpose Mic=

Harvey, I think he is just asking which mic people think would be OVERALL the most useful for a lot of stuff if the price did not matter.

    Does Any1 Hate The Sm57????

Haha yeah. I always thought it was funny that the mic has been around for quite a while, and even now, no one has been able to top it. Heck, you'd think someone would have alteast figured out how to make a pretty darned identical copy for cheaper, but oh well.

    Wharfedale Diamond Pro Monitors

I'd just like to add, for no good reason, that it is amazing that this thread has gone on for so long, and that to this day, is somehow still becoming more worthwhile and educational. This is a good place on the internet. One of a select few IMO. :)

Do I need Preamps on high SPL source?

Wait a minute. Wouldn't sound cards have some kind of preamp in them? After all, you do hook computer mics into them.

    I must concur. :D

    Pre's...are they magic?

No kidding. People overlook the instruments and equipment related to them WAY too much. I know for sure that tons of people come here asking questions about how they can improve the sound they get with their $1,000+ recording setup and $200 amp all the time. Thats working backwards in the...

What sampling rate do you use?

I've always used 24/44.1 when I could. The main reason for using 24 bit when it is going to end up on a CD makes perfect sense to me. Since you can't record everything at 0 dB non-stop at 16 bits, the extra headroom just makes things easier, even if you lose some of it when you are all done...

    Vox Tonelab Discount Question

The one with the pedal board is still $600 though. Also, Pods got a lot cheaper. Vox and Behringer have apparently dropped their prices in an attempt to compete.

Aw darn, I thought they were going to have really angry/confused/depressed/otherwise strange expression on their faces for some reason lol. I am quite disappointed. :( ;)

Alternatives to guitar amps for recording

If you can't use an amp at ANY volume or don't have one or whatever, I would say a Pod XT with atleast one of the amp package upgrades plugged direct is your best bet. Personally, I think the most versatile option for the money is getting a new Pod XT Live (again, likely with atleast one of the...

    Help on micing Guitar Amps?

You know what I just realized? Spiders are known for sounding thin and kind of fake coming out of cab, but they have speaker emulation on the direct out, which makes it sound a lot better than the normal direct outs on most other amps. Actually, the new Pod stuff isn't that bad. People are...

    Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device

They sound good live. I once saw five bands play one right after the other where the first three just had normal kick mics, and the last two also used the Yamaha sub kick thing. It made a very noticably different, powerful, low end blast. Very cool.

    Stephen Paul Audio Mic

DJL, I don't think anyone is going to die if people ask questions that only Alan can really give any type of answer to, and he comes and answers them as best as he can. You need to chill out with the spam stuff. It is obviously bothering you, and really, I don't think it should even occur to...

    SM57s on toms?

The reason I think 57s are a bad idea for toms is that you could pay the same amount of money and do a lot better, like with one of those Sennheiser E604 three packs.

You shouldn't have said that. Behringer will surely find out about this, and next week we will undoubtedly see the introduction of the Ultracopper Pro...

    Poll: World's Best Tube Pre?

It's a better idea to just buy tons of the Behringer ones instead of one super expensive one. Then you can run them all together and get a bajillion toobs put together. Quantity over quality, I always say.
