It's very easy: you just slip the cover off of your computer and slide the card in an empty pci slot. It'll pop into place and voila! But if you don't want to do that, there's most likely already a sound card in the back of your computer that you can connect to and record. Most likely it's not a...
You need to get an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 capture card. It's really good. I use it with my Tascam 414 mkII. It has RCA in's and out's so you can also use it to bounce. I got one on eBay for about $150.

Hey Everyone,
I'm starting a recording project on Monday with my Tascam 414 mkII. Lately I've been using Sony "cd power" type 2 tapes, but I'm experiencing some dropouts. I've heard that TDK SA60 tapes are the best and can be found anywhere, but today I went to Radio Shack, Target, and Wal-mart...
I am a piano player, and have been reading about and am interested in the motif. I have a vague idea of what midi and sequencing is, but I'm not too clear on it. From what I know, though, I think I would definitely make good use of it. So could someone give me a complete explanation of what it...
Hey Aaron! Our songs are similar. We should combine 'em!
There was a frog
sittin on a log
here comes a wave

Yep, mine's recorded too. I did it when I was about 5 or 6.
Sadly, my songs haven't improved much. haha. Just...
Hey Guys,
I asked on the Patty Griffin forum, and her soundman showed up and said that the album was recorded on a Roland Digital Workstation. It was an older model than what's out now, one with 16 tracks.

I'm just curious. I'm a huge fan of Patty Griffin. That record, 1000 Kisses was recorded in Doug Lancio's basement. It sounds really great. Anyone know?
Could someone recommend a site where I can get a good cassette tape degausser for my Tascam? I guess I'll use it every time I change tapes?? It that right? And what about a tape head cleaner? Do I use that just as often, and if so, before or after the degausser. I think I'll just get a head...
Hey, I'm back. Thanks for all of the replies, I really do appreciate it.
I know exactly what y'all are saying about analog being better. I'm also a filmmaker and there's alot of discussion about digital video verses film. I'm on the film side.
Anyway, I really want to use analog, but I think...
I just want to have something to compare it to before I jump in and get something. I know I would like working with analog more than digital, but I'm not going to ignore quality.
Maybe I just need to hear something recorded with the 34b.
I think 1/4" cassette tape sounds horrible. So I'm...
I worded that badly, I meant, is there a bit rate that's equivalent to the quality of a 1/4" r2r recorder. I was just curious. I also want to know so that I can decide on what to mix down to. I have a Br-834 that I use for recording rough versions of my songs, I could use that for mixdown. Or...
Howdy,
I'm new to analog recording, and I'm interested in the TASCAM 34b. I'm just curious as to what bit and sampling rate these 4 track 1/4" recorders record at. Is it 24 bit, 96K? or 16 bit, 48K? Am I way off? Or thinking the wrong thing? I'm just curious.
And also, I don't know if anyone...
Patty Griffin
Well, my favorite changes about everyday, but they're usually always Patty Griffin songs.
Here's part of Long Ride Home
Long black limosine
Shiniest car I've ever seen
Back seat is nice and clean
Someone dug a hole six long feet in the ground
I said goodbye to you then I threw...
I've searched the previous threads and haven't found too much about recording an upright piano.
I have somewhat of an idea of what I think would be best, and have played around a bit, but I would like to know the way other people do it.
I really want to record stereo. The only 2 mics I have...
