    Monitors out of phase?

this might be the wrong forum for this question, but here it goes anydamnway: I think something is wrong w/ my monitor set up (Tannoy Reveal passive). The other night I was playing around w/ a drum machine track at my studio. When I got waht I wanted I decided to lay the track down instument...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Indeed. As E conversation has the limitation of disguising the inflection in one's satement I cannot tell if you are being sarcastic or.....actually I dont give a shit. Thanks for you help, all the same.

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

VCspaceboy, those are good points. Like I said, its not that I was disagreeing w/ BlueBear I just wanted to make sure that we acknowledged that gear is not the only factor that determines how successful a person could be at making a mix that is so good that it doesn’t need mastering. Now, will...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Outlaws, Wow, I feel like I am in court! I am obviously too stupid to understand how badly you have burned me for asking a question about a piece of gear I hadnt used before. Other than knowing the brand name of a piece of gear I would like to own, at what point did I profess to being an...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Uuuhh, Outlaws, is there more than one kind of Distressor as in the Emperical Labs? Oh yeah maybe you're right, I was talking about the Behringer Distressor! School me Braniac. Twonky

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Like I said Bear, I hear you, and agree. The shitty reverb point is a good example (I actually have a preset called "shittyreverb" on my alesis Quadrverb, it sucks, come to think of it the Quadraverb sucks too...). Its bad sounding no matter who uses it, lets just hope that this "genius" can do...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

I understand what you are saying BlueBear, I think I am now arguing past that point. I am now on the 'gear does not make the man' soapbox. No hard feelings

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Is that so hard to fathom? That someone w/ a natural affinity for recording and a great pair of ears could not use shitty gear and trascend its limitations? I mean its been hard work for me and some of my consumer grade crap gear has not helped, but I fucking worked at it for years and now...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Roll your 'e' eyes all you want the subtext of your post was that his statements were disqualified because of the gear he listed. And I am still trying to figure out what was offensive about his post in the first place. I mean it meandered, but it didnt offend me.

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

Sure, I am not going to pretend that my Mackie is going sound as good as an AMEK or a Trident but, to immediately disqualify someone's work or at least thier comment on their work based on the gear is a bit myopic, I think. My point is, that it is very detrimental (sp?) to discourage someone...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

To answer your question: My experience is the same as Chessrocks, sometimes I get lucky and nail it (and this is because I am GREAT) and sometimes I finish and that shit needs some help, fer sure (also because I am great) I have achieved excellent and crappy results and I am pretty sure my...

Ever made a mix that sounded so good you thought it didnt need to be mastered?

So gear *is* the deciding factor in how good my recordings can sound? Not creativity or hard work? Twonk

    ADK A-51 type V

Great! Thanks for the info. I have emailed Larry Villella and had the same experience, quick response and good honest info. I actually called ADK one expecting to get a tech or customer support and he answered and talked my ear off about his mics. I must say that so far I am quite impressed...

    ADK A-51 type V

I am a little late w/ my response: But I say get the A51. I have two, a type 1 and a type V and they are both excellent mics. Great for drum overheads, acoustic guitar, and guitar cabinet. They even have a hidden bass roll off inside. How are you liking your Sc-1s? What are you using them...

    Layla 20 Vs 24

I can't speak for the 20 but I have the 24 and love it all to pieces. AS far as price range: American Musical Supply has a payment plan where you can break it up into 3 installments comes to like $233.00/month That might help take the sting off a new one Twonk

Radio station in my guitar amp!

Thats so fucked up, this happens in my studio sometimes and its always the sort easy listening/smooth jazz station thats come through! Why is that? Is smooth jazz so powerfully sucky that it can be heard trough anything, like fillings and metal stuff? And why is it that when you are on a road...
