2 hard drives. one for music and the other for documents

BestBuy has a Western Digital 80 Gig for $109.99, and that is all that you will need if you have another bay. If you don't, the only thing you can do is either replace your current drive, which may be a good option anyway, or rig it to hang in the case somehow.

I got mine at BestBuy and yes, the 8Meg cache is VERY fast.. Especially in a RAID 0 setup... :D

Ok... Let me take a stab at what you are doing... You want to be able to listen to the mix on either speaker to get different points of view on the mix?

a newbie QUESTION..conn SoundC and Speakers

Most active monitors are going to have unbalanced 1/4" ins, so this here would be your best bet: http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--HOSCPR20 The cable is just a 1/4" jack on one side and an RCA on the other. You can buy them in 3.3 Ft, 6.6 Ft, 9.9 Ft, and 13.2 Ft sizes.

    Building a New PC!

Technically, the master drive should go on the end of the IDE cable, but generally it doesn't matter. I have never found a case where it did. The simletaneous drive access is key when you want a high performance system. This is the reason they tell you to put your CR-ROM and CD-R drive on...

How Is This For A Studio Plan?

Offsetting the walls is the best way. I am not the expert on this by any means, but yes you can use accoustical treatments to kill standing wave.

How Is This For A Studio Plan?

I believe the first thing people are going to comment on is the square walls. Square walls are bad... If you want some good ideas for a studio layout, check out the SAE recording manual, and browse through John Sayers' site. http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html...

    Building a New PC!

Now of course, the IDE interface isn't hot-swappable, so that's no fun. But, the IDE RAID really does give you an amazing performance boost without a whole lot of expense. The cost difference in an Abit BE7 and a BE7-RAID is only about $15, and just add one more drive for RAID 0 (fastest but...

    Building a New PC!

LOL :D Yeah, SCSI Raid is a pain on boot, but IDE Raid like the Promise chipset or the HighPoint chipset really are very fast. The HighPoint RAID is built on-board of my Abit TH7II-RAID and it adds MAYBE 3-4 seconds to my boot time.

    Building a New PC!

Maybe things are different with me, but I am making no joke or exaggeration when I tell you that I have had NO Seagate drive that didn't fail on me in what I would concider to be pre-mature. I even took the time to have one of them sent back under warranty to get it fixed and it wasn't but 2...

    Building a New PC!

(cough) RAID (cough)... I'm a huge advocate of RAID. I did it on my current computer and you would not believe the increase in drive performance. If you are looking for a good performance machine, do not over-look it.

    CDRW problems

Re: echoing the CD-R suggestion I like the coaster idea. I have many fun things out of spent CD-Rs. If you have a good shreader, send on through it! It's VERY interesting.

Making a profit on residential land

Hey guys, I have a question... I'm putting together the numbers for building my studio and obviously land is a key part of it. I don't know if any of you would know what the law is in Ohio, and to be honest I don't really know how to find out, but what about putting a studio on residential land...

a newbie QUESTION..conn SoundC and Speakers

I'm assuming those 2 RCA outs are the main outs for the monitors. You can buy adapters relatively cheap to convert from RCA to 1/4". You can pick them up quickly at (don't repeat this) Radio Shack. Do you have a set of active monitors yet?

2 hard drives. one for music and the other for documents

Zeke, Your problem is going to be the speed of the interface. You are probably going to need a USB hard drive, but your computer most likely has a USB 1.1 interface which is by all practical applications, slow. USB 2.0 is MUCH faster. I would say that your best bet would be to just replace your...

    y-spliting speakers

What you may want to look at doing here would be to create a wire that would hook the output of your MIDI card up to an auxiliary input on your sound card, that way you could use you sound card's mixer to mix the audio for you. I did this with my brother's computer because he has a Dolby 5.1...

Build or Buy, a slightly different slant

I was able to get a Dell Dimension 2400 with a P4 2.20GHz and 256 Megs of RAM with integrated video down to $609. That would be decent. Certainly better than what you are currently using.
