    y-spliting speakers

If it's a decent sound card you should be fine. I have done "Y" adapters many times on many different things and never poped anything and still had good signal strength. You should be OK to do this. As da MUTT said, don't mix the outputs together!

    Building a New PC!

That all sounds fine except for swapping the hard drives for Seagates... I have yet to this date not one single Seagate IDE drive that has NOT failed on me. To this date I have zero Western Digital drives that have. In a business like this, I would stay VERY far away from Seagate unless you are...

    ...team fonts update...

Wow... I don't know if I would be able to handle that! I'm too much of a control freak, I'd have to be there doing it all myself... Should I be able to build the studio in my plans (have to convince a bank first) I'm going to be on site for the construction of the building and I am doing all of...

    y-spliting speakers

I'm a little confused... You have 2 sets of speakers, and 2 sound cards... Are you combining the signals or something? I don't understand where the "Y" adapter comes in...

    CDRW problems

Sounds like they may have been defective if you have never had problems with them before. I agree with the other guys, just go CD-R. They're cheap and much quicker! :D

    hardware vs. software crisis

Software can really help you become totally self-sufficient. I do all of my recording in either SF Acid or SF Vegas. The ability to use loops can really expand your music. I would never go back to tape, and I would never go to a "Do-it-all" console. PC is the way to go.

    Building a New PC!

Shane You may want to concider using an Abit BE7-RAID. That will give you the ability to use RAID for your recording drives for better speed, or at the very least it will give you 4 independant IDE channels so none of your devices are hogging bandwidth from another.

Build or Buy, a slightly different slant

What OS are you using on your current PC? Are you willing to part out your current PC of it's drives/case and other parts? I just looked into building my sister a computer. Here's the basics with cannibalizing her current computer: ATACOM.com 85.95 - ABIT BE7 SCOKET478 INTEL845PE Motherboard...

How I am using my laptop

Sounds like you have it all figured out! As long as the sound card sounds good you should get a pretty good result. I have been recording for a long time now using an Ensoniq Audio PCI card. it's just a normal $29.99 sound card that I got a Best Buy a long time ago and to be honest, it sounds...

    Good headphones?

You know, I have had a lot of Audio Technica stuff and I don't think any of it's ever let me down. Except for maybe 1 REALLY CHEAP AT mic... Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll start checking them out.

    Tips for Studio Plan

(cough) Geek (cough)? lol I'll admit... So does that mean you are a geek too? Sounds like a mess... V6. I used to have a Duke, but that one died. I thought about going Archie, but I decided to keep the 2.8 for now. Eventually I will probably go 3.4L Turbo, or 3.8 Super, but that's after the...

    Tips for Studio Plan

Wow. Except for the traveling thing that sounds frightfully like me! :D I have survived several reorgs at work, I'm getting ready to look for a building for a studio or buy land and build one, I just passed 5000 miles on my Fiero of which I completely rebuilt the motor, ported/polished the heads...

Well here is some pictures of my small studio..

Re: Re: Re: Well here is some pictures of my small studio.. You know that's something that most people never think of, but it makes so much sense. I can't count the studios I have been in that have had their nearfields laying on their sides, so I never paid much attention to it until I read...

    Tips for Studio Plan

I asked a similar question a while back and the ONLY reply I got told me to go to John Sayer's site. That was some good advise. I would register for John's site and upload it to his forum. http://www.johnlsayers.com/

Well here is some pictures of my small studio..

Scott... Sorry to interupt the pets... The studio looks nice. i would say 1 thing about your setup though, and it is a very small thing that can make a pretty big difference, and that is set your monitors up. When I purchased my Tannoy Reveal monitors, the manual that cam with them was very...

    Stupid question of the week

I agree, I ran a PIII 733 (not too much faster) with 256 Megs of RAM and I was able to run several tracks in SF Acid while recording stereo tracks. My only concern would be the quality of the sound card.
