    Home studio advice - Help

Wow...That's on heck of a question. 1. Doesn't Matter 2. Depends on what you want to record 3. Anything MIDI compatable 4. You probably don't need one 5. See number 2 OK, now let me expound on that. PC brands don't really matter, since none of them (even the best ones) are not set up properly...

    Click Track problems argh!!

Check this thread. I'm not sure what mixer you are using, but this whole thing sounds to me like it's a routing issue and has nothing at all to do with your sound card or software. Obviously the click track in N-Track is a different story...

Can't perform well in a studio

The phase reversal thing works in theory, but is much, much harder to impliment in the studio than simply pressing the phase reverse switch. You have to remember that if the vocalist can hear it, it's not canceled out If it does actually cancel out, you still have the room reflections to deal...

    Click Track problems argh!!

Is any of your gear (soundcard, mics, headphones, etc...) goig through any kind of mixing board? You didn't mention it in your origional post, but I've seen many setups where a simple routing problem does this sort of thing.

Can't perform well in a studio

The couple of shots of scotch will do the trick... However, if you don't want to give in to that urge, you might want to ask the recording engineer if you can use a dummy mic, just something to hold on to. Some peple don't like to do this as there are problems sometimes with the dummy...

Need a REALLY good multi-effects and/or Reverb rack unit for live guitar...

OK, I understand what you're saying, but.... "versitility is much more important than pristine sound quality" Depending on the budget, and how much versatility you're looking for, it is a good unit for $400.

    Is this guy any good?

It was done a while ago, a few years. He thinks it's good, but he wasn't bragging about it. He's not one to brag about anything. Here's another example of his work. On this one, he's playing most of the instruments and singing. I don't care much for the song, but again, I'm really just...

    True Bypass on Delta 1010

Hmmm. No responce from M Audio yet. I hope this isn't a sign of the support department performance.

Need a REALLY good multi-effects and/or Reverb rack unit for live guitar...

Plexi, why do you say the GT-6 doesn't like to be in a loop? I've never had a problem. What am I missing? To noisy? Grounding issues? Input/output impedance?

    egg cartons?

Drums are perhaps the hardest to soudproof for. The eggcarton trick will help a little do dim the cymbals, but you'll usually get better results using heavy drapes instead. Also, there's a few theories regarding soundproofing a recording space. Are you trying to keep sound in, keep sound out...

    Is this guy any good?

That's what I was thinking. The players are good, so that takes that out of the equation. This guy recorded and mixed it in his old studio. He has since gotten a much better space (acoustic wise) and some new equipment. I'm wondering if his skill have improved as well.

    Is this guy any good?

I'm working with an engineer/musician and I'm wondering if he's got what it takes or if I should go running. I would post this in the MP3 forum, but I don't really care about the music. What's your thoughts on the tracking, mixing, mastering, etc... This song is a just a sample of something...

    Two Computer Keyboards

christiaan has the right idea. Right now, as I'm typing on my PS/2 keyboard, I have a USB keyboard sitting a few feet away. No conflicts, no problems. Actually, the USB keyboard isn't even a USB keyboard. It's a PS/2 running though a PS/2 to USB adapter. I'm running Win2K, so I don't know...

    True Bypass on Delta 1010

There are soft switched devices, I agree. However, if the signals are routed directly, at what point is the monitor mixer in the chain? The mixer is always there, you can't disable it, which means to me that the signal is always going through the conversion. I dont beleive that the 1010 is...

New tune over compressed or not?

Of course you can run the signal at -03dB while you're mixing down. However, you need to make sure that this is the maximum signal throughout the whole song. if you get even 1 peak over 0dB when you're workking with digital, you're going to have problems. While listening to your song, I...

    How to choose CD Burner.?

Get the plextor. As with most things, you get what you pay for. I've had mine for years and, although it's a little slow by todays standards, I've never once burned a disk that didn't work, or made any drink coasters.

    Delta 1010 Software?

I believe it's just drivers. You should download the newest drivers from the website even if it did come with the disk. Just so you know you're getting the most up to date versions.

New tune over compressed or not?

Back off a little on the level. If you have the option to remix, you might be able to get the loudness you're looking for there by adjusting individual levels instead of at the mastering stage with a compressor. After the acapella intro, I think the guitar needs a little more volume. You...

    True Bypass on Delta 1010

I have one and I opened the manual and looked it up. Here's a quote from the manual. "The ‘Mixer Inputs’ are inputs to the monitor mixer. These inputs accept hardware audio streams (directly from the Delta’s analog and digital input ports) and software audio streams (digital audio generated in...

Need a REALLY good multi-effects and/or Reverb rack unit for live guitar...

If you're not set on a rack mount unit, check out the GT-6 from Boss. Best $400 you can spend (IMHO). http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GT6/
