The new pres in the UB series Behringer mixers are a HUGE improvement over the older MX series. Quite good, I think. Definitely worth considering if you're looking to compete with the VLZ-PRO series Mackie pres.
Chris
I was considering exactly the same options, only felt the MOTU was out of my price range. Ultimately, my retailer swayed me toward the Delta 1010 and an external mixer. He volunteered to get an Aardvark in for me to check out and buy if I wanted to, but said that they stopped stocking them...
I've got almost 4x your "pro studio" cost limit, and I feel it is still very much a proJECT studio. My main mixer is a Behringer UB2442FX-PRO mixer, and I have a few other behringer things (compressor, SDC's). The pres in the UB series mixers totally ROCK the older pres in the MX series...
You've deduced correctly that the Bel Canto technique is NOT a quick fix of any sort. If you're not willing to commit to at least a couple of years, you're probably wasting your time with the Bel Canto technique. If you are interested in investing the time, it is, indeed, a good investment...
I don't know about COMPLETELY with Cubase, but go to www.steinberg.net and poke around there. There is a section, I think called the users lounge, or something like that, that talks about who is doing what with Cubase. North American acts aren't terribly well represented, but they have had...
Hey Apple....
You've unwittingly stepped into a rattlesnake field. There are a number of opinions on what the "proper" way to sing is, and the people who hold those opinions will argue furiously that their technique/opinion, etc. is the best. I hold one of the more difficult-to-understand...
This is great.... I'm glad you asked, because this is exactly my experience.
I heard a recording of my voice when I was about 11 or 12, and was totally appalled - not because I wasn't used to the sound of my own voice, but because I recognized it as horribly out of tune. The effect of that...
I expect that most of us know who Prince ( and his various incarnations) is.
Tanlith... I notice you're from Windsor. Many of us Canadians forget that many (or even most  )Canadian artists (ie. Leonard Cohen) are virtually unknown outside of Canada.... especially in the USA. Sure...
Okay.... a couple of things here. A good singer - depends on what you're judging. You can have a singer that is pleasing to listen to for whatever reason (can hold a tune, has distinctive voice with a quality that you like, etc.), but that does not make them a good singer. I think of Kurt...
True about the 127 velocities possible via midi data. However, one of the giveaways that someone has used samples triggered by midi data is the fact that there is often only ONE dynamic level - a default velocity of, say, 120. When you can change that up - using different samples that account...
Ottawa is a fairly large city, so to say that Steve's is the best place in town probably accurately suggests a certain amount of credibility. Also, I believe that they are affilliated with Steve's in Toronto (same sign, no?), which also gives them credibility. That was the very reason I asked...
Hmm.... interesting....
So I see two possibilities here.
1. They sell "an awful lot of it" and "a lot of that shit comes back." I'm wondering, then, if porportionally compared to other brands that might not sell as many units, if any more Behringer stuff really comes back than anyone...
So, I wonder then.... The guy at Pongetti's that I asked about it added that they don't like to stock stuff that customers are habitually dis-satisfied with. It makes the retailer look bad too when the customer buys stuff that the store recommends, and then has to return it because it doesn't...
John Mayes said in jest.... "my friends, uncles, brothers, half sisters, cousin, said that they only used behringer gear on the last rolling stones album. Is this true...."
There is a lot of unfounded rhetoric on pretty much anything on the net - including whether or not Behringer is any good...
No offence or disrespect taken. I'm not the one starting the threads. I've noticed that they are coming up more and more these days too, and I find myself saying the same things over and over again. It does get a bit tiresome.
Chris
:(
A few thoughts here.... if it sounds good, do it. You have to remember that 95% of any given audience are NOT musicians and won't know or care what you're doing anyway. To them, if you sound good, you are good. Musicans judge you through other filters, though... that is true.
As far as...
Agreed, totally. Sure, they're not going to compete with name brands like Neve, Avalon, Royer, Neumann, Drawmer, etc., but they'll often even beat the pants off items at twice their own price point. If it wasn't for Behringer, I'd probably just now be getting past my Realistic DJ mixer, using...
I guess it's a matter of semantics here. I agree that "human" time is more musical, and therefore "better" in the hands of a competent musician. When I said that humans do not have perfect time, I was, of course, referring to the mathematical/theoretical definition of perfect time.
:rolleyes...
Re: hmmmmm well
I made the same mistake two weeks ago. It won't work - even if it appears to be TRS on the plug and TRS on the two inside jacks, like a headphone y-adapter. You need a special insert cable. Your idea sounds totally reasonable, but it doesn't work.
