New to Cubase...a few questions...input appreciated

Don't forget that SX operates at a bit-depth of 32-bit (floating point). If you want to use true-tape, you have to work at that level. If your card can do true 24-bit, and you can process at 32-bit, I suggest going that way. Check into your CD-burning software. It might not support Broadcast...

    Sx2

I've heard only rave reviews so far. I won't know myself, for sure, until I get mine - probably tuesday! :D Chris

Trying out Cubase and hav a problem

Check your sample rates. If they don't match up (ie. importing a 48khz file into a 44.1 project) then the pitch will change. In Cubase SX, go to your project preferences and select the sample rate there to match the files you're importing. Chris

Do i have to make a hole in my bass drum head to put the mics in?

You can. Probably up nice and close would be best. Have you considered just removing the one head so that you don't have to worry about wrecking it by trying to cut a hole in it? Place the mic inside the shell up fairly close to where the beater hits the head. If you want to close off the...

    Mic/amp a flute?

Maybe between the Preamp and the 4x12 cabinet, you could run it through a Mesa Boogie, and crank the pants off it. It works for my guitar!! :D J/K, of course.... It just sounded like a very elaborate signal path for a flute. But hey, if it worked, them I'm certainly not going to...

Dobro.... very good suggestions. As moderator, can you keep the thread intact and move it to the Recording Techniques forum? Chris

    bounce track

Hi there; I'm assuming that you've purchased the program fairly recently, as this is a very common "newbie" question. Considering that, I'm guessing you are using SL or SX? I believe both use the same manual. Check out p.625-626 of the manual, paying particular attention to muting the tracks...

    Vocal Editing process

Yeah, the UB series pres are WAY better than the MX series ones. (I haven't been able to get as good a sound from my bass, even when plugged into an amp or a PA!!) The MX ones were a little lifeless, though, but they weren't bad. Chris

    Dual processors

Cubase, these days, also supports dual processors. I know SX and SX2 do, and I'm pretty sure even VST5.1 did too. Chris

    Vocal Editing process

Re: Thirst, something that took me a long time... Mike - your post was filled with great advice. I just have to disagree with this point, as I use a Behringer mixer for my vocals now, and they don't come out muffled. I used to have an MX802A, which was usable, but I typically chose my...

    Vocal Editing process

I think the point about the Z's was that that is a bit of a pretentious affectation donned, apparently, only by the hip-hop community. Kinda like spies wearing dark glasses. Either way, I know most of us here don't really care, and are open-minded enough to accept virtually any style...

How do I get that FAT/WET metal-ish kick sound?

Yeah, you should hear the new Metallica album. Killer drum sound... you'd almost swear you were 14 and listening to you buddy's demo recorded in his garage. Now THAT's real!! hehehe  Chris

I just got monitors, what you guys think?

Hmmm..... I knew this would get ugly. While I agree that some of sonic's ideas could be interpreted as over-analytical, or maybe not addressing some of the specifically intended points, but I think he has raised some interesting things. You hear with your ears - not your eyes. I'm sure we...

I've heard it uses basically the same capsule as the NTK. Any ideas? Chris

    Sennheisers.. evolution

I picked up an e835s a wee bit ago, and put it through its paces just last night. I put it up against an SM58, and it was much brighter, though maybe a bit hyped in the upper mids. Afterwards, though, the 58 sounded muffled by comparison. Chris

how can I write the score of my vocal parts?

There is no easy way. Learning to do it properly will take a fair bit of time and effort. Perhaps you could pay someone to do it. Alternately, you could write down the lyrics, and play the melody on a keyboard, and have some software capture the midi data being sent in and you could have it...

    Rode NT2000 - one of a kind

Hey folks; I heard about the forthcoming product from Rode, which isn't even on their site yet. A google search comes up only with sites in German. Apparently it is the NT1000 or the NTK mic with a series of pots that adjust a variety of completely variable settings, including bass rolloff...

    Which mic for live use?

You can't really ever go wrong with a 58 for live vocals. I can't comment on the others you asked about, but another option to check out might be the Sennheiser 835e. I'll be giving its first test on Wednesday for live use, but I've read a lot of good things about them. Picked one up a couple...
