buying a used piano... any advice?

Hey all; First, sorry for posting and disappearing. I got squashed writing report cards for the past week. I fell of pretty much *everyone's* radar. Your advice IS appreciated. Lt. Bob - PM received. Posted back over at RP. SonicAlbert and Wil Davis - good advice about bringing an actual...

buying a used piano... any advice?

Hey all; I know some of you are really knowledgeable about pianos and stuff. We're looking at picking up a used piano - $500 or so Canadian. My general opinion of pretty much any instrument is that "if it feels good and sounds good, then it is good." However, there must be some "look fors"...

Hooking headphone amp up to Delta 1010

Are you using a mixer? I use a headphone amp and a Delta 1010. I feed the headphone amp with the pre-fader aux sends from my mixer, so I can get a headphone mix separate from my monitor mix in Cubase. I'll provide more details if this is how you might be able to do it. Chris

Behringer and the hits keep coming...

An old thread I started when I wanted to research *first hand* about the whole Mackie/Behringer thing, and getting past all the rhetoric. https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=74439 I've also got an issue of Recording Magazine somewhere where they interview the producer for Bon Jovi...

    A BUS question? Or what?

Are you using version 2.x or 3.x? This is significant, as in version 3, Cubase/Nuendo brought in integrated hardware routing, which directly addresses how you do this very thing. If you are using version 3, as I understand it (I'm using Cubase SX2), Nuendo/Cubase treats hardware units the same...

    Best Software Reverb ?

Check out SIR. It's freeware, has tonnes of impulses for download, and is awesome. Often times it beats out my TC Electronics M300 hardware unit I have. Only negative side is that, like any other good reverb, it is a CPU hog. Chris aka "axemanchris" from the "other place." ... you know...

Check Out These Mp3's From Alternative Rock Solo Artist Jesse Michael Garcia In Utah

I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at here, but it sounds something like polyrhythms, which, as you suggest, have been used in lots of "non-pop" styles from tribal music to modern avante-garde composers. Roughly the idea is this... You have one part playing in 4/4 time. In the space of...

Check Out These Mp3's From Alternative Rock Solo Artist Jesse Michael Garcia In Utah

Hmmm... only sort of. For sake of argument, the difference between a dotted eighth to a sixteenth, and an eighth note triplet where the first two eighths of the triplet are tied (at a tempo of say 120bpm) works out to something (I can't remember what... I'll work it out precisely if anyone...

Check Out These Mp3's From Alternative Rock Solo Artist Jesse Michael Garcia In Utah

Sorry to bump the thread, but... JGarcia started off okay, and his stuff really isn't all that bad. I've heard worse, and of course, I've heard much better. The problem, as I see it, is around his third post or so, he really started asking for trouble in the way he presented himself. That...

SX2 and Delta1010 - thought I had it fixed, but still no

No. I didn't notice the "uninstall" patch. I have, however, re-installed Windows XP pro...... twice.....:( Chris

SX2 and Delta1010 - thought I had it fixed, but still no

That's exactly what I'm about to try. Hopefully, all will settle back to functionality. After all the crap I've been through, I'll be surprized if it works. :( Chris

SX2 and Delta1010 - thought I had it fixed, but still no

Hi there; Okay.... I did all these things - Refreshed my install of Win XP, Updated to the Service Pack 1 (recommended by the tech at M-Audio support), put in the latest driver (the 29 one, not the 27), and did the XP optimizations. I have also uninstalled Cubase SX2 completely, re-installed...

More professional ? Cubase, Logic Audio, Samplitude ?

Never having used the others, I'll throw in a vote for Cubase. The new SX2 is decidedly rockin'! Chris

    mixer + trigger + a few questions

Hi there; Q1. I'm not sure I totally understand what you're doing, but check out the info on "Midi sends" in the operation manual p. 466. Q2. What you're talking about sounds like a technique called creating a "side-chain." It's not explained in the manual so far as I can tell. Check out...

This could be a earth shaking approach

Find a recording of Lute Suite #4, played either by Segovia or John Williams (the guitar player, not the Star Wars composer dude ;) ) It will change your life - at least if you play a string instrument of any description. It's not all fast, but there are parts of it. It is a most beautiful...

This could be a earth shaking approach

Hehe...Y'know, I was thinking the same thing, Benreturns! Put on Bach, and a lot of people will do the ol' roll-eyes and talk about how boring classical music is. Well... Bach, having been dead for hundreds of years, is still the yard-stick that all others are measured against in terms of...

    Kick Butt Set Up?

You used the older version of Cubase. Check out the NEW Cubase SX 2. It will be perfect for what you want. Steinberg set the standard for VST technology, ASIO - both protocols that all the other platforms have since adopted. As you know, it started off as a sequencing program. They've...

And now for something completely different.... for me....

Skully - You're right - I don't think like a drummer. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I'm also in the midst of checking out drumbum.com. There are TONNES of lessons and resources there - all free - for almost anything drum-related that you can think of. Doug and A1A2 - We're...
