    Need advice on this Mix!!!

Bring the drums up front, pan those hats, compress the bass a lot and maybe slightly compress the mix to give it a better "hold".

...? And what's your input on the thread? Or maybe you just don't know what to say ?

    thrash!

I agree with the previous poster. For alternative/pop/rock/metal/european shit, I always "AT LEAST" use six or eight guitar tracks done with diffrent guitars, picks, string gauge, amps, cabinets, pickups, amp settings, speakers, levels, mics, etc....you have to do this in order to get...

What sampling rate do you use?

Okay first dude, you have to learn how to read. This is a quote I picked out of the document you liked me to: "Let us begin by examining a band limited square wave. We set the fundamental frequency to 1KHz and the channel bandwidth to 22.05KHz (as in red book audio CD)." By this, he means the...

What sampling rate do you use?

Okay then tell me how much samples (on average) per cycle you will get at 44.1k ? Much closer to 2 than to 3. And please explain to me how this is irrelevant in this discussion?

    KRK RP5 vs. Yorkville YSM2P

I use a High quality flat and accurate headphone system. Not those "toy" monitoring headphones you find in most studio. I currently have some Sennheiser HD600 and Beyer DT880 (ancient generation). Both these are extremely flat and accurate (as said by many on www.headfi.com and...

What sampling rate do you use?

Noo....! Let's say you sample a 20kHz signal at 40.00000001kHz, which fits your requirement of "exceeding double the minimal frequency", then you won't get three samples for EACH wave cycle...you're more likely to get TWO most of the time.

    KRK RP5 vs. Yorkville YSM2P

Well, monitors ARE the most critical part of your setup. It show that you are not THAT serious about getting a FLAT and ACCURATE response. Dude, for this amount of money, the monitors you buy are no better than cheap home theater speakers. If those were $300 PASSIVE monitors, then it would make...

    Using Auto-tune plugins

Then, dude, what are they using to fix the voice of Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson , etc ? Autotune does wonder in the right hands.

    ultramastering.com???

I would much rather master my stuff myself than sending it out to these guys. The sound samples are less than impressive and I can master as good as they do in my my own bedroom. When you think mastering, you think Sterling, Gateway, Mastersound, etc....you don't think $120 an album geez.

    KRK RP5 vs. Yorkville YSM2P

Neither. Both are awfully cheap and use too small woofers for you to hear what's going on down low.

    ultramastering.com???

Nothing's wrong using eyes combined with ears dude.

    Home theater speakers...

Word! Forget all the other crap! B&W IS THE real thing.

    Signal Paths

With all this stuff comes something that is called "owner's manual". Generally, reading it will provide all the possible ways to hook up your stuff.

$400, what will improve me most?

Welcome to the world of the many guys here that say mic preamps make A WORLD of difference. The main difference you hear comes from the 4040 (which is a nice mic BTW). The Tampa or the Audio Buddy do the same thing..they preamplify your mic signal. This is easily done by a couple of opamps and...

    Bose 301's as reference monitors?

What sampling rate do you use?

There are three sides to consider for this debate: 1) The Nyquist theory The max frequency that you can sample is half the sampling rate. But this theorem is only valid for ideal converters and filters. Furthermore, at this max frequency, you only have two samples per complete sine waveform...

    Switching Between Monitors?

This is ridiculous! A switcher is only this...a switch, period. It doesn't effect the signal path provided the wires used are shielded (if signal level switching) and of sufficient gauge (if passive switching). Buying a $1k switcher won't improve from a $100 switcher. Look dude, I could build a...

YorkVille YSM2P Active Monitors!! What do you Think??

Canadians are Americans. We are all part of North America. And I feel much more like someone from the USA than from Canada. USA rules!

YorkVille YSM2P Active Monitors!! What do you Think??

I hold much less angriness against Japan car makers, as they make a very good product. Still, in my own opinion, GM and Chrysler make excellent cars, while Ford sucks big ass...I give that point to you. So I'd buy a GM or a Chrysler over a japaneese. But to stick with the debate, the real...
