I ordered the (box) upgrade over a month ago. Haven't heard any notice of shipping yet.

    firewire to usb 3 adapter

You dont need usb3. usb2 can easily and cheaply do a couple of dozen simultaneous channels. There are only 1 or 2 usb3 interfaces and they are outrageously expensive and unnecessary. The industry has partitioned itself into usb2 / firewire / thunderbolt, with firewire looking like it's going...

    firewire to usb 3 adapter

No. The adapters you see out there are for cameras and hard drive transfers and do not work with audio interfaces. usb works in a burst mode and audio interfaces need sustained transfers. (this gets asked all the time but the answer doesn't change... it wont work.)

separate i/o devices for pro tools

low-latency asio on windows is one soundcard driver at a time, unlike osx where you can create aggregate devices. Get a $40 midi/usb adapter. Midi is a low speed protocol and doesn't care as long as you point it to the right device. I've used usb keyboards and a midisportusb2x2 for years...

EQ then compress or Compress then EQ?

If you don't experiment yourself with things like this, you won't learn nothin'....

    Stevenslate drums- Electronic kit

You only need an audio interface with a midi port. All the drums would go into the computer on the midi port, get split apart inside the computer. You'd only need a 2-channel audio interface for a pair of monitors or earphones to hear it. You don't need separate audio ports. BTW: you can also...

    roland v drums

The earphone out is a stereo out; all you need is a stereo 1/4" to dual 1/4" mono plugs to go into an interface. You wont be able to separate out all the channels, just left and right. The midi is only a midi OUT, so you can't route midi back to the unit for re-recording any edits from a...

    shockmount hacks?

Several years ago I made a couple of shockmounts for nearly nothing from pvc pipe fittings and scrunchy hair bands (about $4 per mic). One was for a LDC mic and one for a shotgun mic for my camcorder. Easy to do. Here is a similar example.

    Recording a Clarinet

tongue noise = player technique Same with saxophone (which I play as well as clarinet) You'll also want to turn the gain down a bit and play louder. Condenser mics are very sensitive.

Moan - too many tracks for computer

Bingo. Your computer has lots of simultaneous housekeeping chores to do. Trying to stream audio, samples, etc at the same time is too much. Most efficient setup for any DAW: OS, apps and plugins on boot drive Sample libraries on second separate drive Audio projects and tracks on third...

Do not get the in-line. Get the Focusrite. Much better choice.

Setting up flat screen to work as imac screen extension

Simple, you get the cheap Thunderbolt-to-HDMI adapter and plug the TV into it. Osx is already set up to allow multiple displays.

Is there an "Ideal" Location in a Studio for Tracking?

Uhhhhh, whatever SOUNDS good.... Use your ears and make some test recordings. Math guestimates are only good at giving you a starting point.

    Keyboard USB to MIDI

You can't hook a usb keyboard to a sound module. usb needs to go into a computer; it may then be possible to route the midi back out to a sound module tho...

    2 Mics - 1 USB + 1 XLR = ???

Sell the usb mic, get an audio interface and an xlr ldc condenser. usb mics are for podcasting (the interface built into them is less quality) and will just make things difficult.

    Audio recording for Noob

In the sound control panel, look for recording preferences and uncheck anything like 'what you hear'. It's a common setting on built-in/gamer cards that causes problems with audio looping back.

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

MIDI was invented in the 1970s by real nerds with pocket protectors; you won't find anything 'easy'. Amazon has a number of basic midi books (look around in your local bookstore too) Tweak's MIDI basics is still up, but he passed away a few years ago and isn't updating his site anymore...
