I made a reply in your initial thread that was pretty long. I hope you read that.

Question about matching -10dB mixer with +4dB recorder.

So I'm curious why someone would buy this one over the Mackie. Is it just the price (this one's cheaper, right?)? I know the Mackie has a monitor hook up I think, so you can see the waveforms and use a mouse to edit and stuff, and I thought that was really helpful. Just curious if this has...

Why don't you just get a second delta 66? It'll be cheaper and you'll have enough tracks to do the drums plus a few(8 analog and 4 s/pdif).

    Mediocre recording equipment.

Okay, count up how many mics your drumset will need. Two for overheads, one snare, one kick, one for each tom (3?). That's 7. So pretty much round it off at 10. You have a LOT of money to spend. That's a good thing. Step one will be hanging around this website and figuring out WHY you need...

Mackie 1642VLZ or Soundcraft M12 with Delta 1010?

Okay, I don't have a great understanding of this, so I might not know what I'm talking about at any point in this message. I think the direct pre works where the signal after going to the preamp just gets routed out the direct out. It also goes to the board, but the direct out is pre eq and...

Give a budget and what he's going to do with his recording setup. How many things does he plan on recording? I know he says his drums, but is that it? Will you overdub everything after you record the drums? Will you record everything at once? More info, yo.

Mackie 1642VLZ or Soundcraft M12 with Delta 1010?

I don't know about your routing questions, but as far as quality I hear the soundcraft pres are a little better than the mackie's, and the EQ whomps the shit out of the mackie's. Take that for what it's worth. Since you're just using the board to route it might not make a difference. I've got...

Bought M-Audio What else do I need?

Re: Mixer + Question How are your monitors hooked up? Just put them coming out of output 1 and 2 and use those as the monitor mixer. Check out the instruction manual for more information.

    M-Audio Soundcards

It's around $500 for two channels, so it's not suprising.

I hear the RME Multiface is really great sounding, too.

Haha. It's hard to explain. All I can say is read as much about it as you can. That will give you an understanding on how to prevent it.

    RNC (compressor) questions

You need to get your bass up to line level before putting it through the RNC will make a difference. Does your mixer have inserts?

    Matching Levels - Help Requested

Since I can't fiddle with your system I really don't know. I'd say just start with everything at unity and move stuff around until it works. That's all I would do. How about more detail on how you've set it up? Let's start with the board. Make sure nothing is clipping. Since you're going...

recording with a sound card and mixer

You will need a track by track transfer, so for 8 tracks you'll need 8 direct outs (or tapped inserts) going into the 8 1010 inputs. If you send them all as two, that means it's a stereo mix (L and R channel) and when recorded you'll only have the L and R channels, not the actual 8 tracks.

recording with a sound card and mixer

Do a search, you'll want to learn about it. Don't forget for snare the SM57 works, too, same with toms and (to an extent) kick drum.

What is your exact routing path? Have you tried switching the -10/+4?

recording with a sound card and mixer

If Sonar doesn't work, then I'd advise you to go download N-Track. It's free (you have to upgrade for the 24bit version) and it's easy to learn. That will allow you to use as many tracks as you want. As for phase problems, those will only matter with anything that ISN'T close miced, so you...

Bought M-Audio What else do I need?

I'm not sure how'd you go about monitoring. I'd usually patch the outs to two powered monitors, or to an amp. Maybe you have a stereo you can use (though in the future you might want to change that, monitors are VERY important for proper mixing) until you get monitors or an amp for your...
