    Vintage Fostex 450 vs 820

They are from the same company, yet the difference in their preamps are like night and day. Anybody noticed this? The 820's seems to be a lot better, hate to use this word, but warmer. If you need to know what is and what's not, test them side by side and decide for yourself.

    Sound booth building

Total Acoustic Isolation Rick is right. There is no such thing as Total Acoustic Isolation. You could only Attenuate the sound in certain frequencies and the hardest of all are the low frequencies. That is probably why he used the bass guitar example. The website I linked explains that. But...

    Sound booth building

    Modular - Movable Have you tried these people? http://www.soundsuckers.com/ 4' x 4' x 7' 2" - $2,288 to 8' x 8' x 7' 2" - $4,888 I do not work for them, but they build them for hearing tests and accoustic isolation. Hope that helps.

Question about SURE Shure 545SD-LC Dynamic Unidyne microphone

Shure 545sd I am sure it is an old one and I don't think you could still get one. I own one and they were a lot cheaper than the 58, but I though it was a little harsh.

    Recording Studio Rules

Don't Touch My Equipment Unless you allow them to, they shouldn't be unplugging, rotating, sliding things if they are not the engineer. This seems to be common sense, and need not be said, but there are those people who are arrogant and stupid enough to do those things you didn't think they...

    HELP - Microphone too sensitive

I hope you could help me on this one. There is quite of few of you who owns this microphone so there should be a Delphi Oracle of best solution amongst you. I am using a Marshall V67G (Let me not list the whole audio chain as I believe it is a microphone problem). The problem is my microphone...

    Direct Guitar Recording

Verify This Please I can't believe this thread that I started moons ago is still up! I am sure it is up because it addresses a very important aspect of home recording - available acoustics. But please verify that many, if not most of motown recordings were recorded direct or at least many of...

HELP! Got a vintage Tascam mixer board. Cant figgure the bugger out.

I have both 512 and 312 boards and manuals But I am very busy right now and the manual is very thick. But soon, I sould be able to make you a copy for free. The signal flow chart is the single most important item in the manual. Except of course, you want to know the specifications, etc. I...

    Mastering/volume equalization question

I knew it. Every once in a while, I log in, I learn something. Well, we really learn something everyday! Massive, when you said frame-accurate PQ documentation, what are you referring to? How does it affect the sound, if it does and what are the caveats? What is PQ anyway?

Just look... drool and dream :)

I think this one is much better, except, it is a little bit more expensive than that one: http://www.soundbroker.com/CONSOLE_RECORDING/?listingid=14468 You may need to read up on this one though, but you have to pay a bit more, like $650 Grand...

    How screwed am I?

Normally, and I mean just normally, a 4 ohm speaker at 120 watts is really a 60 watt speaker at 8 ohms. The 200 watts at the back of the amp means the power consumption of the gear, not the power output. Get a new amp. Hafler - for around $200 or get a used Yamaha Natural Amp or receiver...

getting rid of that karaoke vocal sound

Sandwiches, I know exactly what you are going through! Been there, done that. Actually, mine was wors3, the dude brought an actual karaoke Video CD with him as his backing track! Well, he knew a little bit and the one he brought was the one without an organ melody in the background so it...

Best Pair Of Headphones Under $100?

I don't own an AKG K171, but I do own three AKG k110S (CHEAPER version $59) for my guitar players and singers. Let me tell you, the AKG leaks! Especially if your mic is a large condenser sensitive enough to pick up nearby sound. So I tell the singers, in the vocal booth (I use the SONY - the...

Best Pair Of Headphones Under $100?

Well you know, I wasn't really paying attention to the model, only the brand, but when I listened to SONY MDR-7506, I looked at the model number and price, then tried the equally priced Sennheiser, and swapped it with SONY, then back, then to AKG, then to SONY, and back (so many times and also...

Need lot of Help. Cant get Pro Quality Sound

What exactly do you mean by "Professional sound"? How is your sound different from the standard you made for your recordings? If your recordings are "clean", maybe all you need is mastering or pre-mastering. To find out, try to compress your piece. Experiment with the settings, see if you...

    Normalizing and Mixing

I am not sure what everybody does, or exactly how it should be. (That means I could be wrong), but I normalize during pre-mastering stage only.
