I use stainless roundwounds on my bass and they are indeed very bright when i first put them on. A couple of weeks of playing normally breaks them in though. I would think you could tweak some treble out of the tone maybe? That might take the edge off the strings til they settle down?

Tell him where to stick his legal action. He didn't keep to his arrangement with you (by not turning up when he should have) and you werent conducting a business transaction. It'll cost him more to take action than he could possibly hope to recover.
Don't let him push you around. I'd even give...
Vease, gotta agree with you on the Supernaut front.. that's one of those songs that (at least for me) picks ya up and rattles you because its so full of energy. Just makes me wanna jump around!
But I dont think that is the only defining quality of a good song. I would agree with you though on...
I know a guy who did a home-made run of CDs of his band and then got shafted by Trading Standards. Not all CD players can handle CD-R discs and so people were buying them and couldn't play them. It caused all kinds of hassle.
If you get them professionally made your CDs are gonna work for...
Good songs simply are. If there was a formula then there would be no bad songs.
If you can feel it.. that intangible feeling you get when you hear a great song.. its a great song.
Maybe its to do with the way your brain reacts to certain frequencies. Maybe its to do with your collective...
I just got myself a 3 band EQ circuit for the EMG pickups in my bass and by crikey WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES!
It has a sweepable mid, bass & treble boost/cut, pan etcetc and it sounds AMAZING. It also means I can dispense with the EQ on my amp which I have always found to be undesirably noisy...
DAMN! I had forgotten about Derek Smalls in the last thread like this.. thanks for reminding me effedupstrat!!!
I just have one practical question....
are we going to do Stonehenge tomorrow?
I use Elite Stadiums .45 to .135 (I have a 5 string too) I dont use a tapered B string but I think they do a set that has a tapered B in it. The heavier the gauge the better I would say.
Detune a 5 string bass by one whole step (A,D,G,C,F) and you are most of the way there... seems to be the fat detuned bass sound with a bright back-kick from the strings rattling against the frets slightly......
yeah but jrlemonz the question was "Who are your 5 favourite bassists?" not "Who are the 5 greatest or most innovative or most technically proficient?"
So I dont think its that surprising that Jaco only made it onto one list.
In no particular order.....
Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath
Cliff Burton (RIP) - (ex)Metallica
Les Claypool - Primus
Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rex Brown - Pantera
I have a pair of J type EMG pickups in my 5 string that I wouldnt be without. Not sure on prices though its been a while since I put them in and can't really remember. They can be wired as 9v or 18v whichever you prefer. They have a reasonable range of tone on my passive tone setup but EMG do a...
I have a brace of EMGs in my bass running off 18v that I am perfectly happy with. Want to get the EQ for them too but that will have to wait 'til I have satisfied my other equipment desires!! They are very quiet but its possible that they are stacked humbuckers.. I'm not quite sure to be honest...
Not that I want to be picky (and I guess I could be wrong) but I thought that a "J" type pickup was the straight bar (as on a Fender Jazz) and the "P" type the split configuration (as on a Fender Precision). At the very least I know for a fact my Bass Collection has (according to the...
Does anyone know how to hook these two things up so I can use the Zoom to alter existing tracks? What I am trying to do is feed the signal from the Isis to the Zoom, process the sound and then send it back to the Isis to record the result. The Zoom has an SPDIF too so I want to use that if...
Thats a coincidence cos I just got its bigger brother the RFX2000 and have been trying out a couple of things... seem to do the job for my purposes has a compression setting on it too which is a little limited but better than the big fat nothing I had before.
Very intriguing piece of music. Strangely enjoyable in an unconventional sort of way and vaguely reminiscent of contintental european experimental short film soundtracks... in a strange kind of way. Thats a compliment by the way.
