MM, thanks for the reply. So you're saying, don't worry about the large signal swing in the analog domain, just get the peaks below clipping and don't worry about the lows?
Cloneboy, you're talking about plug-ins and cards; are you talking about for a computer? I don't use a computer...
People are different
Well there you have it. DeepWater read the manual once and understood the AW16G in a week. I've read the manual several dozen times, downloaded and read Yamaha's Recording 101 and the Signal Routing document several times. I've posted questions on the forum numerous...
Aw16g
I bought the AW16G last summer. It's difficult for me to figure out, but other people think it's easy. Don't know anything about the Korg.
You'll definitely need an external preamp for the G for vocals, you can't get a high enough level with the G's built-in preamps. I just bought a...

Hello Baerstev,

Hello Valiance,
Good strong emotional stuff there. Here's a few comments, for what they're worth.
I see the first line of each verse is long, followed by two short lines. Does that work musically?
"you were light of day" I don't know what you mean there.
I would suggest adding...
Greetings,
I have an Alesis 3630 dual-channel compressor. I also have a Yamaha AW16G mulitrack digital recorder. The AW16G has internal compression, which works in the digital realm (after the analog signal has gone through the A/D converter). Where would it be better to compress? I'm...
Too funny! I have a 3630 compressor! I saw the title of this forum, and had to walk over and check. I've had it for 10 years, so didn't remember the model number. So why y'all dissin' it?
Thanks
Thanks Purge. After I posted, I found other threads about inexpensive pre's, so I was expecting to get (deservedly) flamed for not checking other threads before posting (it's not too late!).
Anyway, I read all those, and the M-Audio DMP3 was recommended by many (and won two polls)...

...forgot to mention, for now I just have Shure SM57's and SM58 mikes. I need the preamps to boost the signal into the Yamaha AW16G. Then I'll look into a nice condensor mike.

How about <$200?
Greetings all,
How about the best preamp for $100-$200 range? I already have a dual channel compressor, so just need preamp. Either a dual channel or two discrete singles. This will be for boosting mic signals into the Yamaha AW16G digital multitrack recorder. Not looking...
