    Get a grip

Thanks Joey. Yea, it's gonna remain instrumental as are all my tunes as I couldn't sing a note to save my life. :o :( Any thoughts on the sidechain compression used....anyone? Mart.

    Dead Inside - new tune

I really like this one mate. I tend to disagree with WhiteStrat a little, I think it's the hard right guitar that's competing with your vocals(not the drums) and I think lowering this a little, would do the trick. Though I do agree...leave the screaming in...it makes the finish. Great...

    Get a grip

Thanks very much for your comment Pixel. Yea...I know what sidechain compression is and am familiar with the NY method. I did actually use S/C on this track when I first composed it a couple of years ago but I just didn't like the sound. S/C compression(of the pumping type), always sounds to me...

    Mixing Dilemma!

Sounds like you need to consider 'sidechain compression'. I've been messing with it all night incidently and am about to post a track that uses it in another thread. Anyway...the idea or method behind it is...as the kick sounds, you route a signal from it to the sidechain of a compressor which...

    Phase cancellation

Thanks Glen and please don't apologise for a detailed post mate...this is exactly the sort of full, well explained and informative type of stuff I signed up for. ;) I hate one liners. :( Yea...I spent last night working on the mix I posted the picture from. I basically got it phase free all but...

    Music Video Heaven For Everyone

Really like it. Looks like it was a lot of fun to make but, why does it remind me of a Christmas video ? Now that's not a bad thing...it just reminds me of the sort of stuff you'd see on MTV around xmas time. ;) Mart.

    blah, plunk, screech

I really like this one. I think the acoustic guitar is a little too bright and maybe a touch more verb might do it justice. Yea, I know they're supposed to be way back there but, those vocals sound great and I would love to hear them come a little bit more forward, at least briefly. As...

    Get a grip

About a week ago, I posted my first track 'The Drive'. I got a few comments which I really appreciated. So then I decided that I would keep all my music together and so I posted my second track in the same thread, thinking that this was clever and organised.  I now think this was a...

I have a bigger challenge for home recordists!

:eek:Yea...listening to it again today, it is a bit shitty eh. :o:D Yea mate, absolutely. If you can get somebody to put some real sparkle on it, do it. Though I'm not sure if you mean it would be good if...or you mean you have someone in mind...it's a shame someone reading this thread doesn't...

    Phase cancellation

Cheers Glen. Believe me mate, I'm not in the habit of collapsing my piano to mono. Piano is normally the main ingrediant of my music. I like my bass C to be slightly to the left and my highest C to be to the right. I just borrowed a Piano track from one of my mixes for the experiment. I backed...

    Phase cancellation

Thanks Glen. Yea...I do compare in mono but this is what led me to my post. If it sounds ok in mono but I can still reduce the 'out of phase' peaks....should I do so at the expense of the stereo field...I mean, well I've just experimented whilst sitting on this thread.... I've tracked a piano...

    Phase cancellation

How important is it to avoid anti phasing in my mix. I mean, I know what it is and I know the results from serious phase cancellation but, just how much should I allow before I do something about it? If you look at the picture I've posted, you can see some slight anti phasing but should I work...

I have a bigger challenge for home recordists!

Cybergord I spent a few hours today mixing, mostly just trying to get a better mix, the kick, the snare, more vocal cleaning and generally trying to get a more commercial loudness and feel. But the most significant change, I've spent the night adding a new instrument...I'll let you spot it...

    Want you

Don't sound like there's much missing to me dude, not instrument wise anyway...although thinking about it, a bit of Jazzy organ wouldn't go a miss. A good swinging track mate...thanks for sharing. Mart.

I have a bigger challenge for home recordists!

Ok...just a quick update. I've uploaded a rough mixdown with vocals aswell as updating the instrumental mixdown. Haven't had much time today and did most of the work tonight(through headphones). Worked on the vocals, compressing, added a gate to cut the gasp for breath inbetween words which...

    The Drive

Get a Grip So I decided I'd create the link for my second track in this same thread as it's gonna be track two of the same album and it saves starting a new thread and keeps my music sort of organised which I like. :D Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments good or bad so, have a listen and let me...

    Gapless Audio CDs

So you load two wavs into Audition. Then you copy the second wav into your clipboard or even better, select cut so that it leaves the window empty(to use later), but stores the wav in your clipboard...then find a suitable place in the first wav toward the end where you'd like the second track to...

    liar!

Here's a link to some of my favourite free vst plugins. 'Modern Antress' Here you'll find a few good compressors as well as other things. I've used the 'Modern Antress' compressor a few times, it's the 2nd plug down available in black or silver. I really love these plugs cause they look awesome...

anybody know of free plug-ins for mac

I don't know what version mac 10.4.8 is as I've never used a mac. However here's a link to a couple of decent free plugins available for the mac os. http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?item=2&subItem=5 Mart.

    liar!

Well of course that depends on the compressor used and wether it's hardware or a plugin etc and you need to experiment but, just start box standard. Insert it on the main rap vocal and wind the threshold up. As the vocal drops in volume, keep turning up the makeup(output) volume to compensate...
