How do you record nice lush vocal harmonies?

Thanks for this reply! There are very interesting ideas in your post! For this little album I told myself I would only use my four-track cassette recorder, as I was looking for a grittier sound, but I also have a teac a3340s (I'll have to buy more tape for that one). And yes I was also wondering...

How do you record nice lush vocal harmonies?

rob aylestone I see, that's indeed a crazy amount of vocal tracks! I think that may be why I've never had the courage to do this on tape as it requires doing a bunch of bouncing. Farview I like that idea. Usually what I did was I would just do doubles of one note, and doubles of the other...

How do you record nice lush vocal harmonies?

I see! I will try messing around with my compressor effect whilst recording the live vocals, not sure if it's going to be similar to what you're doing (as I don't have effects that I can put on during the playback really, unless I were to transfer all single tracks onto my computer). I will keep...

How do you record nice lush vocal harmonies?

Hey, I've been recording some new songs lately and I want a specific ''sound'' but was never able to achieve it. I want to know how I would go about recording some vocal harmonies. Keep in mind, I'm recording on tape, so the only effects I can use are on my amp (there are plenty of effects on...

Do you use a pick when recording acoustic strumming

what are you going to do if you want a softer tone during the song, switch picks? when i'm talking about "fingers", i'm also including NAILS, which are the same thing as picks. who the hell seriously plays with coins? i don't get these guys that have learned guitar only by playing with picks...

After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

^^ that 43rd take is what makes you a better musician. once you're good, you don't need that many takes to record a part. that's one thing that is great about analog. i've greatly improved my timing/rhythm because of that. recording analog teaches you that perfection does not equal "good"...

Do you use a pick when recording acoustic strumming

naw, neva. i never use picks for both electric and acoustic guitars. (i only use a pick for bass sometimes, if i want that high-mid sound. using a pick for guitars limits alot of your tone control; tone is all in your fingers.

    At All Volumes

i can relate to what snowman is saying about cranking up a song (like War Pigs) and it sounds way better. does that have anything to do with what they call the loudness war? (i don't know, maybe it was mentioned before, but not in those terms). the fact that they didn't amplify their mix and...

Tricks and secrets of recording on a four-track

^ i must say, that is pretty awesome what you wrote. i can't imagine what it's like to be blind and write on these forums (which are great). this is pretty much a miracle; and you are. anywho, thanks so much for repyling. i bought this machine and it seemed to be in a good condition (but what...

Yamaha MT400: 4 Tracks Out At Once?

i own the mt400 but i'm not sure of your question... a four track allows you to monitor all four tracks at the same time... i don't see why you couldn't do that with a machine that is specifically made for that. you can monitor all four tracks at the same time by using the stereo out or the...

    Multitracking on a Teac A-3340s

I've turned down the gain knobs on the yamaha (they are below half the max volume now) and turned up the outs on the Teac up to 6-7 and it sounds pretty good to me. only problem now is getting rid of some noise... i'm using a (kinda shitty mic but sounds good) f50 audix, xlr to 1/4" impedence...

    Multitracking on a Teac A-3340s

^ my outs are at 2 right now (not 2 o clock tho haha) because if i put it higher i get distortion. But yeah I feel you, I'll monitor the volumes on the Teac and then adjust from there. and i've seen those model 2 mixers before, haven't had the chance to spot one under 500$ tho, but i'll be on...

    Multitracking on a Teac A-3340s

i'm all monitoring this thru my 4-track, by plugging my headphones in it. also, my mic is plugged in directly into the teac (so i'm basically using the mt400 just to be able to monitor all four tracks on the Teac)

    Multitracking on a Teac A-3340s

after a year of wondering what i should do with my reel-to-reel, i finally realized i could just use my yamaha mt400 four-track as a MIXER for the a3340s. (i bought some rca to 1/4" cables) Now i got a couple of questions... When I monitor all the tracks with the mt400, i have a couple of...
