To get good useful answers we need a bit more detail, so heres a few questions: what environment are you recording in? do you have a sample of your voice we can hear to give us and idea? what other equipment do you have/plan to have? is it just you that will record or do you plan to record other...

seriously dont bother until you know you need it, get a good firewire interface (like a firepod/box - the 8 mic preamp one) and then spend your money on good mics

if your okay with linux give ardour a try, im pretty sure the dyne:bolic distribution (which is an operating system like windows) had ardour already included

badger, you should be able to get that from your local builders merchant which should save you some money, and you will be able to get it in the correct thickness :)

how close are you the microphone, maybe its due the proximity effect?

dont double post please :) yeah youve really compressed this hard havent you? in the breakdown halfway through the kick sounds like its been triggered wrongly. So i think you should get rid of some of the compression, even in the quieter part its still at 0db

okay i dont think you can really compare a modeller to a real amp miced up without treatment, most presets on modellers have been processed loads which makes them good direct but wont sound close to raw miced tracks. Also i think u would benefit from playing with settings a bit

listening to always and for never, its good but i think the vocals need to be rerecorded i really dont think pitchy vocals sit with electropop too well, oh and compress the vocals and turn them down a bit. The musics good it reminds me of Ratatat in a way.

I have a small studio set up in the box room of my house, its got victorian high ceilings and is 4m by 4.5m (estimate-cant find a measuring tape) and i have a few questions on treatment etc. 1) I have a feeling my parents would freak if they came home with the room full of rockwool absorbers...

the intro is quite Thursday, the main vocal is well voiced but some of the longer note quiver a little which is a little distracting eg. "things are getting harder" Good mix, pretty nice song :)

loads of studios get by with mackies, i really wouldnt see it as a problem. You should be able to record quality tracks with the pre's. And once youve got a couple of payed recordings done maybe invest in 2 channels of really good pre's for vocals/important instruments.
