I want to build a piece of rackmount equipment, but need a housing for it, that I could drill holes in and mount jacks and switches on. Does anyone know where I could get something like this? Protools Problems

Yeah, the processor seems to be the problem here. Are you SURE it's 512...k... RAM, surely you must mean 512 MB.? I didn't think you could even GET ram that small anymore, especially on a board that accepts a 450 chip. Anyway, I have the Digi001 as well, and was running it on a 433 Celeron...

    Sideways Speakers Sound So Sexy

Ok, question about mounting speakers. In alot of pictures of studios, both pro and home, the near field monitors are mounted on their side most the time, that is, with the tweeter and Woofer at the same height. Is there a certain reason for this, sonically? Or is it just "how it is"? Any...

    Headphones-Speakers...pitch change?

i'm recording digital into protools...so I doubt that tape speed is a problem here :). So, is the idea to record with maybe, both headphones on, so I can match the pitch of my vocals with the pitch of the playback in the phones?

    Headphones-Speakers...pitch change?

Got a question about pitch and headphones. I recorded something this evening, and was monitoring it thru the headphones for half, then switched to my speakers. When I switched to the speakers, it sounded like the pitch was a little off from what I heard when I had the headphones on. Since I...

Does a shorter cord mean better quality?

Well...the guys are right, the quality isn't really better...but...with a shorter cord, you DO have less interference, picking up of other signals, etc... Because the cords act like antennas basically, the longer they are, the more stuff they pick up on the way. Also, the longer the cord, the...

    Reversed Reverb.... I think

Record on some nice crappy reel-to-reel tape, wind it fast, "tail-in", and let it sit for, oh, 10 years. Bam...instant pre-echo :).

Hey guys... Ok, the other night, my band and I were playing at a small place downtown in my city. After we had done a set, a guy approached me, saying that he liked what he had heard, and that he was interested in talking with us about management and representation. Ok, so, my question is...

    Mic an AC Guitar

I was recording my acoustic/electric(Takamine) last night, with a Marshall 2001 and 603(just got them a couple days ago). I was playing around, and just out of experimentation, put both mics about 8 inches from the soundhole, with the 603 pointed more towards the fretboard. I panned the...

    Beginner's Mic Queries!!!

My 2 Cents eh? I'd grab a dynamic(that other type :)) and a good large-diaphram condenser. For the dynamic, i'd have to recommend a Shure SM-57...about $90 or so. It's a great mic, and incredibly versitile. This is the mic you'd use for guitars(amps and acoustic) basses, drums, etc...

Live vocals sound OK, recorded vocals sound crap

yeah, I agree with MASTON...i have the same issue. It's not that the vocals aren't "up front" it's that they're TOO "up front"...like they're too harsh. I started adding reverb just to give them depth and help them sink into the mix a bit, but it just sounds TOO spacey. I'm using an SM-57...

What do I need for a professional system?

Radio Shack, eh? Yeah...well....while I know those monitors look sexy, i'd get new mics first...Radio Shack and Pro DON'T even start to go together...in fact, Radio Shack and nothing go together...bad stuff. Get new mics, then look at the monitors...you'll be much more pleased. ***Justin***

A few basic questions about PC recording...

Well, as far as the pres go, yeah, any ouboard mic pre will probably give you better results than the Tascams...i've got the Tascam 4 track as well, and while the pres are ok, they're not great...try the Tube MP.... Good luck ***Justin***
