    Hello fellow guitarists

I'm kinda self taught, had teachers for six years but they never taught me how to read music. That and of course all I had to do for the weeks lessons was watch him play it once. Even so, I still take time to learn stuff like modal scales. I may not be able to understand the relationship to...

    Mom and Pop Guitar Shops

Sure......Goez instruments...located in Maplewood. A little out of the way but Skip IS the man!!! Don't have his number handy right now. He used to work at Silver Strings music on Olive. When I bought my s-470 from GC in Minneapolis, the ZR trem was all messed up. Guy told me it would never...

    Mom and Pop Guitar Shops

Wow, thats too bad you had to go through that.....That is definitely GC shit! Which is probably where they came from. I go to two small "ma and pa" shops, one is about an hour away but Skip, the owner is such a great guy. Like everyone has said....you'll pay more but it is so worth it. I...

    Questions for the Ibanez players

Hey Chris, I agree, that's a huge problem with the cheaper Lo-trs trems. The "pro" trems are a lot better to handle. I just went out and got an S-470 with the ZR trem and that solved EVERYTHING! I love it and I'm NEVER out of tune. You can drop D tune with no probs. Breaking strings causes...

    Questions for the Ibanez players

Man, that is a nice guitar! Anyway, setting up heavier won't bother the neck or anything. Of course you'll have to make some adjustments and stuff, but thats normal with any guitar usually. Welcome to the Ibanez family.

    T-Ride

Anyone heard the band T-Ride. Old band.....early 90's or so.....One of Satriani's students was the guitarist. I just found their CD among all things I had packed when I moved back to Missouri. So..put it in the player after many many years. He's a really good rhythm player, just wished he...

    Recommended Multi-Effects Units

I'm with Mixmkr.....I don't have a GT-8, but I have the GT-6. I am amazed at what it really can do once you crack the book on it and get to know it. I also love the distortions on it although at Church I don't use that. At home recording, everthing is direct and the distortion sounds great...

    Recommended Multi-Effects Units

I agree...no speaker modeling can beat a true amp. but.....it's not as bad as what your making it. Just my opinion.

    Recommended Multi-Effects Units

I would most definitely recommend the GT-6! I've had one now for a couple years although, when I bought it....it was newer and more expensive! I love it. There is so much tweeking you can do with the sounds...you'll never get bored, and when you think you have...you have quite a few speaker...

How do you record your guitars?

Ibanez S-470 --> Boss GT-6 --> BR1180. Direct and it sounds pretty good. Thats what people have told me. May not be "Amazing" or anything but, the people I have had listen to it say they were pleasantly surprised.

    Flashy.....or "Old School"

To tell ya the truth, I love all these newer guitars like the Pettrucci model Ibanez & Ernie Balls, All of Vai's models, N4's etc.......But ya know, if somebody gave me the money to spend...ya gotta go for something old school. A little history, plus a GREAT sound. I'd get either an old LP or...

    Flashy.....or "Old School"

Ok, so if money wasn't an issue, and you had your pick of an electric guitar to lets say, buy on Ebay. Which would you go for, Say something like a "crystal Planet" Satriani model, a Vai Anniversary Jem. Something of that nature, newer but flashy, or..........a 59' LP, 62' Strat, something like...

    Resting my hand

Hapi, true but have you ever watched guys like Steve Morse, John Pettrucci, or even EVH. as far as technique goes lets be real, Morse, anchors his pinky a lot (I see that not in any way slowing HIM down). Like what was mentioned earlier, what works...well, works plain and simple. True...

Good rules to live by Matt..........Don't do anything stupid, if you know it's stupid! Grown ups are always right.....Just ask yourself when you get to be one.

    Speed. Faster Faster Faster

Just down stroke picking in some instances gives you a little bit edgier sound, but why try to play as fast as you can only using downstrokes? Like others have said, it's not efficient at all. Plus alternate picking really smoothes things up. I have some wrist motion but my thumb and index...
