Too late man. Just like I was too late. I had my file uploaded but forgot to add it to the group. Not much you can do about it. The notes did specify that "all files must meet these requirements to be considered".
On a completely separate note, could you use spell check or something?
What really blows is that I did my mix, uploaded it and then.......nothing. I forgot to add it to the group. Oh well. It's not like I can't live without more gear. It's been online for a week already but I forgot to add it to the group. Doh! Never really expected to win...
Dude. How old do you think I am? I know what tape saturation sounds like. It's nothing like a mic bottoming out, which this is. The problem I have with it is that(although it has been stated otherwise) it seems to me that the mic definitely has a bit of a hyped top end. As another poster put it...
The vocals ARE clipping. In the loud parts they compress quite a bit. Even keeping the vox well under -20dB they are still clipped. It's nothing I or anyone else is doing, it's the proximity to the mic.
Edit: Actually, I just now had a listen to your mix and the vox are definitely clipping in...
All I can say is that the vocals are giving me a hell of a time. They are clipping out and I find it extremely difficult to clean up. There's no real way to make that kind of clipping sound good. To me anyway. It sounds to me like she's flattening that mic element. I understand that it was not...
Just because there is a trend toward crap audio and lossy audio compression, that doesn't mean we need to pander to it. Someone has to promote better quality audio. I don't mean "audiphile" pseudo-science. I mean measurable quality audio. Show me a mastering studio that mixes solely on Mixcubes...
Oh! Well you work at an electronics store? Your ears are clearly better than the majority. I would dare to guess as well that there is a very small number if any at all of speakers that are hand wired in those factories. I have a $300 power cable that will improve your sound immensely.
While phase may have been an issue with stereos in the 70's and maybe the 80's, 99% of stereos now have phase aligned connectors. They only fit one way. And, if you ar one of those people who considers themselves an audiophile but cannot get the speakers wired correctly, it's time for a new hobby.
There are definitely some people using high end outboard and as I pointed out before some of the monitor systems out there are worth more than most peoples home systems. Shall I quote? I shall:
Edit: One of the mixes did come from this studio...
Fair enough. I don't think nor do I expect to place the top 16 much less the top 100 but I'm hoping I don't hit the bottom 500. Not that I would ever know. I'm happy with my mix regardless of the contest.
You're probably right. I guess I'm just overreacting to the pictures of dudes sitting in front of their expensive consoles or just pics of expensive consoles in connection with the Soundcloud profiles. Probably scooped off of the internet.
....Scratch that. This guys monitors alone are worth...
