    Mic Preamp under $1500

The LA610 is a fantastic tube pre-amp, as is most everything I have ever heard from universal audio (including their software). The 710 is a single channel pre with a tube stage, as well as a solid state stage. The two stage can be blended together to achieve a lot of flexibility. I have been...

    The Guage

I have a thick skin jaz49, but I appreciate the advice. I don't doubt that it has the same cheap parts as several other mic builds do. Considering how many companies buy and sell the same stuff with their own name on it. I am not bragging (which is awful in forums), but I have been using mics...

    What's more important...mic or preamp?

That indeed does make sense my friend.

    The Guage

Well, I was making reference to more of being friendly to a new member of the community. I do not design mics, and have no desire to open up any of the mics I own. I have been using mics for professional purposes for about 13 years now, and have yet to hear a mic in this price range that I...

    What's more important...mic or preamp?

No, its not. I have used an SM58 on vocals run through a good Neve or Oram mic pre it it sounded like a million dollars. I would presonally buy more mics and one solid pre, but his concept is far from "horse crap" Dr sunshine. :p

Stereo Mic Recording on a Computer?

Just to make sure you are aware of this. Taking a mono recording and doubling it to both sides of a stereo file is the same thing as leaving it mono, except that it will be louder. If you leave it mono, it will play out of both speakers and be the same minus the volume change. Audacity is a...

    Mic Preamp under $1500

There are lots of great pre amp in that price range, and too many different uses. I really like the True Solo, but the lucnh box would open you up to lots of great pre amps as well. I would also give a serious look to the Universal Audio 710. I have tried it out (will get one soon) and it is...

    a little dynamic mic comparison

I never thought I would replace my shure 57 when it comes to a snare mic, or a dynamic guitar cab mic. However, the Audix i5 is the same price, and a significantly better sound mic in its higher frequency capture.

    The Guage

No I wasn't. I live in Orlando Florida, and have never met the guys in Cali that sell these things. I have heard of them, being that they are well known pop level engineers. I teach Recording and Mixing at a college here, and have an outsourcing company that does sound design and music for...

    The Guage

Wow, you guys are a real friendly bunch. The Gauge mic I bought was tested on an ssl console against a series of high end mics, and it certainly didn't sound anything like the crap I have heard from NADY. Maybe you could learn some manners for a newcomer to your home studio style forum. Just...

    The Guage

I have never bothered to give a review (more like an opinion) of any MIC I have purchased before. Most of them are the usual suspects, and you either know all about them, or you could read the other million review of them. This one I have to talk about. Its called the "Gauge ECM-87"...
