Midimerge headache. Roland TD3, Fatar S90, Yamaha N12

Here's my problem. I have a Yamaha N12 digital recording console with one midi input. A roland TD3 drum brain with one midi output and a Fatar Studio 90 with 3 midi outputs. I'm using cubase 5, Superior 2.0 with my e-drums and NI B4 II with the fatar. I've bought a midi merge box (from ebay)...

General Rock Mixing Guidelines in RMS..

It's a balancing act, all sound is subjective and there is no given formula in my book. Every genre of music is mixed different and certain types of song withing each genre will have totaly different balances of instruments. Stop looking at the meters and start using your ears.....if you have a...

    mastering in cubase

Do you have cubase 5? There is a mastering template that opens with the multiband comp, stereo enhancer and the maximizer plug. I don't use them myself as I have the UAD precission bundle that do a decent enough job. As for mastering your own mixes...that's a whole other story and there's...

Phil, it's always good to see a fellow pie-in-ear of the mp3.con days. What can I say? Limited space and neighbours has forced me into a modest little recording setup where I do the odd "saturday band", you know...in and out the door with a 3 song demo in 8 hours. I've been recording with the...

    The Cure Disintegration Cover

Great bit of production there, you really have captured that 80's vibe. John Leckie would be proud of something like this. I liked your take on "That's Entertainment" too.

    Saving Sunday (First song!)

Maybe you could give us a rundown on the equipment you used, mic techniques and stuff. Sounds like you caught the essence of the song well and that's what matters. A bad recording (not that this is by any means) of a good song will stick in the head way longer than a polished turd will.

You guys have been great. Big thanks to Greg L for the drum tips. Here is the final revision with the room mic from Superior 2.0 muted and a drum room reverb set up on an Aux buss where I sent all the E-Drums and the Meinl hihats. Sounds a bit more together although I'm still only 80% happy...

    cubase question

I'm a cubase 5 user so I'm not familiar with 4le but have you checked on the cubase VST'i pannel, to the left of the slot where you choose your VSTi there is a little icon to change from stereo out to multichannel output. It is set to stereo out by default I think.

They're not programed, they're e-drums played by a human :D Greg, thanks for looking in. I'll give that a try. Only verb I used was on the snare, everything else is room mic from superior 2.0 which I can't buss the real hats to. Maybe I need to try ditching the room mic and use a room verb as...

On My Own - Greg_L original clusterfuck

Tight as a nun's chuff! I had so much to say about this but got sidetracked checking out your soundclick back catalog, some great versions of the pistols, iggy pop, the romones, the kinks and hank williams to name a few. I think your no woman no cry was the last thing I had a good listen to a...

everything taken into consideration I've done a bit of tweaking. Brought the drums up and added a little more room mic. EQ'd the main guitars and tried to tame the peaks. Tried using REVERENCE on the main vox instead of the UAD plate 140...first time I've used this plug in cubase 5. Still...

Skipping / Converting tracks to .wav

He's using cubase 4? you can drag and drop the sends and inserts into any order. Atleast you can with C5 that I'm using and if I remember rightly you could with CS4 that I used before

wouldn't he just be better with a smaller but deeper kick that would fit under his toms?

Skipping / Converting tracks to .wav

We've ALL been there and done that one. I was tracking my own band only last week and after about 9 hours solid at it our singer asked for a little more delay on his vocals...selected the track and slid more send to the delay I had set up on one of the FX tracks. He asked for a little bit more...

Skipping / Converting tracks to .wav

I'd get my head stuck into the manual and figure out how the aux busses & group channels work. I could go into great detail here and make things easy but you're more inclined to take it all in and understand it more if you read it and understand it and put it into practice in your own way. If...

Help! I need to Chose a Drum PlugIn!

Fact: all drum plugs will sound equaly bad if programed to a grid. Some sound better than others when triggered by humans. I use Superior 2.0 triggered by E-Drums with real hi-hats and the big problem is getting the hats to sit with the rest of the (triggered) kit. Years ago I used single hit...
