    Re-amp anything?

yeah, there's no problem with that. Remember to correct for any delay shifts going back into the DAW. You can definitly screw up your phasing if you don't. However I'm usually weary of tubes on transisents. Such as the ones I assume are in the mesa cab.

How much panning on Overheads ?

just leave it mono :D Only kidding. Yeah, probably no more than 70% left and right. I avoid excessive "stretch" in any mic pairing. The good ol pair of ears will help ya on that.

Loud or Soft Volume while recording guitars?

Experimentation is the only way... -Throw one of those marshall lunch box amps under a trash can...see what that sounds like. -Or rig up a line of daisy chained rigs....see what that sounds like -Or throw the amp in the water...see what the sounds like. (not very advisable) -Try low gain...

Radio Shack Thump Master 5000 maximum SPL handling: The shock it gets from connecting it into the board. :D On a serious note, Beta 52 on the front with a Crown PZM bountry mic nicely mounted inside.

    Interesting question regarding recording drummers

well rick think of it this way, If you're a mechanical engineer and you ask for titanium and they bring you aluminum, do you make the car anyway? Of course the next question is if you can afford to be picky or not. You see, even as an engineer, you have the right to reject anything you can't...

    question about editing

PT will work for you on that. No loss. if there's a chance you can actually go back to the mix session and edit from there, then even better. If not, anything like protools, nuendo, cakewalk, sound forge, wavelab....whatever. It'll work fine for simple edits such as that one.

    question on tracking

Massive pretty much covered everything there. But to add extra input, the answer is: it depends. If you're tracking at one studio and mixing at another, then more than likely no. An "all under one roof" kina studio will probably recycle through some of the outboard gear at some point. That's...

    Transpose, Pitch

Transposing something is re-arranging something up or down certain values based on musical scales. It's also a feature used often in MIDI sequencing. However, in your case, you should be able to just track the lead vox track and each successive background vox track at normal speed. If you're...

How to to gradually slow down the tempo (and pitch) of a section?

to get renegade on the project, you'll need some kind of doppler emulation software. Then pass your stereo mix selection through it to see what you get. As to how much of a change, you'll have to experiment. That can also be translated into software that emulates digital turntables (plugin)...

Getting CD Back From Mastering Guy This Week...What Are We Listening For?

well... pop it into your CD player. 1) If you go "WOW!", then the album is done. 2) If you have a face like you want to fart but you can't quite get it out, then I'd hate to tell you the obvious. I personally just like to listen for a positive change in "feeling". Of course I'm leaving...

Should I put my ear next to a rockin' cabinet?

yeah, definitly not. chances are if you're 37 and you still got good ears, keep em that way. I'm 22 goin on 23 and I always got the old farts in the studio tellin me the same thing, "save your ears, maverick". Of course I always listen to them ;) No pun intented.

Need volunteer ears to check out this mix.....

Well it's mixed results. I myself don't have any personal experience with the ElectroHarmonix you showed me, but it seems decent just from looking at the stats they provided. It's has a tube, but then again, there are differences in vaccum tube technology. The PreSonus DigiTube is something...

    Mixing multiple songs

well the template thing isn't for everybody. Traditionally yes, you start off with your short reverb, a long reverb and bring up your faders to the middle. Then you work from there. I understand that. However, I find nothing wrong with custom templates for brand new sessions. It's a time thing...

Need volunteer ears to check out this mix.....

I heard your stuff! Sounds good! My advice could be a bit tainted since I'm not really in front of a good set of speakers. The only thing I could really think of for the moment is the bass. It seems to jump out of the mix a little at random points of the mix. Perhaps control it with a bit...

    recording electric with 2 mics

you're probably better off tracking the amp with the LDC and running a seperate line DI. Then later on you'd have to phase correct both.

    Mixing multiple songs

I eventually figured out working on rock stuff that it was just easier to track drums, mix the drums into a stereo pair, apply the same template to all the drums and then track everything normally setting levels in comparison to the drums. So for example, if you're checking input levels for...

    best medium to master from

Apogee makes a special kind of CD designed for mastering. I can't remember the name, but you can find it either on thier website or some place like guitar center. You can actually burn at 24bit - 96khz (from something like a masterlink) to then bring it to the mastering engineer. It actually...

    mixing engineer vs. tracking engineer

well that usually depends. If you're working with a good budget, you don't usually consider mixing and tracking in the same day. Not even in the same week. It's a process that takes many steps before you reach each consecutive phase of production. Now if you're working as 95% of musicians do...
