The Skinny on Tracking, Mixing and Mastering at high sample rates

Oh yes true, but consider your MIDI sampling FX and other tracks that bypass microphones all together.

A study about smoking and hearing-loss

It is definitly time to quit! Yeah, the scary thing is that i relate to your wife 100%. Smoking had become such a social and pleasant thing. I suppose I'm just fortunate to meet the weezy old guys that I can barely have a conversation with, that combined with a powerful imagination continues...

The Skinny on Tracking, Mixing and Mastering at high sample rates

I was doing my usual reading research thing tonight and I came across some interesting articles from an ME in New England by the name of Jay Frigoletto. What particularlly caught my attention was his analysis on sample rates (talk 3). I realized that some people here have varied opinions, so...

A study about smoking and hearing-loss

Greetings fellas, I never find it suitable for me to start a thread, but after reading an interesting article, I figured I'd share my findings with the board. Obvious to some and new to others (like myself). But then again, at 22 I have a lifetime to learn new things. The article indicates...

    Dig this

Sure, as a personal piece, anything works. Now if you want an outside and objective opinion: In terms of feeling, I can't really comment cause it lacks substance. In other words, there's a lot of nice words in there but it fails to bring you through any kind of experience. It lacks that...

pro tools 7 upgrade? to plus or not to plus...

Of course having said that, it seems to earn me an anonymus negative review, of course, I'll earn my negative review proudly. To each his own and may proper experience prevail.

    Micing the hats

A nady CM 90 series mic will do you fine. That's my opinion. They have the regular and one with a hipass and pad switch. I'd advise the latter.

red hot chili peppers 1982 demo

Goes to show you...find the next big thing and all you have to do is record them semi decent. The rest waits to go down in history. ;) Maybe someone out there will be the father of the "NU NU Metal" sound. Or maybe the "002 Rack, in the middle of my moms living room" sound.

pro tools 7 upgrade? to plus or not to plus...

Good practice is to wait. Never buy the first version of anything. wait until they have a 7.3.

    Panning and phase

I personally don't mix in mono at any point. Maybe only for the same reason you'd listen to your mix with headphones: just for reference from time to time. What you're experiencing has to do with perceived location of two sources. Naturally, our ears listen to the sources and sum them up into a...

Using a cup over a microphone?

Makes you wonder why they don't sell especially designed cups for recording engineers. "The Ultimo Force Full Frequency Response Cup with optional 50$ shockmount"

Am I cut out for a career in audio engineering?

One step at a time man! On the songwriting thing, the only advice I have is this, and this I was told by a very genius jazz composer: "Everything in this world is symetrical or abundant in the elements of symetry" Wages: Beer, returned favors, equipment rental or possible future...

Am I cut out for a career in audio engineering?

Tom said exactly what you need to hear. That entire first paragraph....probably not so relevant. The second paragraph is what will determine your course in audio engineering. I can personally relate to this, but perhaps if I elaborate a little on my personal experience, then maybe you'll have...

    What would you try??

Well I'd hate to tell you, but Bruce is right. Writing and tracking songs in the same process really makes things harder on you. You can't hope to achieve a "sound" if you're trying write faithfully at the same time. There's different processes to these things. If I where you, I would just...

    Re-amp anything?

exactly my point. Tubes really give an unnatural sound to transients.
