Hi Ray.
I have not had the time to read the entire build thread for this but I guess I should before I begin. From looking at the schematics I find most of the circuitry is fairly easy to understand. I have very good troubleshooting skills and I am comfortable I'll be able to sort things out...
I am working on it :)
The EQ just has bare wires for signal connections so I'm trying to terminate them with something more usable. I think I need to hit the thrift store for a 12V wall-wart too :D
Here is the ultimate channel strip of absolute doom.
On a universal rack shelf I have mounted a TubePre, a Mustang (car stereo) 10 band graphic EQ and an Alesis Micro Limiter. Yes duct tape was necessary
This sounds horrid. But it does such wonderful things when you want to make...
Thanks whiskeyfoot. You don't sound stupid. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.
No don't use a PA on the vocals. What I was saying is if during the recording of your vocal track the singer's mic starts picking up bleed from other instruments you can try to do something useful...
Well despite all the spitting of bile in regards to your recording chain - YES you can record good tracks with what you have. Half my bands songs used a cheap AKG dynamic through a Tubepre for the vocal tracks. ...and the vocals are what we get most complimented on.
Since nobody else here wants...
Since you are doing punk I will add my two cents on bleed. You can actually use it creatively in more aggressive forms of music. Since you obviously aren't doing soft rock you might consider recording a track or two with monitor bleed and doubling it with a clean track. Then the bleed track you...
Sometimes spending effort on improving mic technique will have a better end result than compressing on the way in.
That said, if you choose to compress first then use light settings. Something like 1.2:1 with -20 threshold.
Listen carefully for digital artifacts when using plugins for...
On my DBX 162SL I find the best result is to leave it on Auto mode. So this made me curious about what the magical numbers are for auto mode. After much playing around I found the settings where I couldn't tell the difference between auto and manual.
Attack (roughly) 5-6 dB/msec
Release between...
On Long Island it would be the Mercedes SUV that looks like a Brinks truck or a Jaguar.
BEWARE the Jaguar drivers of LI if you want a long and healthy life...
Well you now understand how the simple fishing communities felt when Hollywood "discovered" Eastern Long Island. There aren't any fishing communities left there now.

Look at the 100 piece price.
pohaku was one of the wise and generous people that helped me in my search. I agree with what he said though I've never tried the SM7 so can't verify his claim. Based on reputation alone it's worth the effort to try it out.
I'd like to also add that there are some low budget dynamics that will...
Been there - I feel you. Honestly, the only way I've found to eliminate this entirely is to record straight through from start to end. If you listen to our Sculpture of Despair you can easily hear all the punch-in problems...
I have been told by people with much better ears then mine...
