So why is it good for the tape to be wound before use? Is this to loosen it up or something like that? Unfortunately my deck (tascam ms16) doesn't have a spool function so it would have to be fast wound.

I just find it hard to believe that all this stuff is anything but lies. I don't believe that they're manufacturing tape or testing tape or anything like that. All their claims are completely inconsistent and the fact that the sole source of information is a very rarely updated Twitter page...

I didn't realise that the ATR-100 was capstanless. It seems like a capstanless design might be more complicated. I assume it would need an optical encoder wheel to regulate the tape speed. It's just an idea at the moment (and a pretty far-fetched one at that) but I feel that it needs to be done...
