    Analog vs digital recording?

I would recommend analogue to anyone. My first recording setup was just a Zoom MRS-4. I got it when it first came out and used it for years. When I started making some money I decided that I needed to upgrade to an eight track setup. I really wanted to get an analogue setup because I loved the...

    Alesis RA150 not working

Hi, I was in my studio yesterday when suddenly my Alesis RA150 amplifier (powering the monitors) suddenly stopped working. There was no bang or anything like that, it just stopped. It turned out that the fuse had blown. I replaced it today but it just blew as soon as I switched it on. The power...

This is my secret to the perfect kick drum sound(funny)

Same thing happened to me once. I just sat down to play some drums, hit the kick pedal and the cat shot out the hole at the front like a bullet!

What is at the core of your home studio?

I suppose it's my Tascam MS16 tape recorder. I couldn't decide between saying that or the desk. But really there is no single core piece of equipment. No one bit would function without the rest.

    Pedalboard Power Supply

Hi, I'm planning on building a power supply for my pedalboard. It will need six 9v DC outputs. What I want to know is, is there any advantage to individually regulating each output? i.e. having a three pin regulator for each output fed from the supply after the filter caps. Alternatively, should...

How do you know when enough is enough

This is something I've thought about a lot (and really just that, I haven't come to any conclusions!) In fact, I've been thinking about it a lot recently as I've got an album to finish. We've been working on it since summer and really want to get it finished and out soon. We keep going back and...

    Mixing Vs Recording

Probably about a million hours recording to every hour of mixing.

    3 Stages of Recording

I always write the songs first. The only things that change during recording are the instruments. Some people manage to write songs in a structured way but I've never managed that. All of my songs just come to me suddenly. I'll sit down for hours and not come up with anything then suddenly...

I wanna hear some live recordings

Moresound: I'm on guitar and vocals. (I tried quoting using my phone but failed miserably)

I wanna hear some live recordings

Yeah, we just ran the mic straight into the camera. No processing. Cheers. Yeah, we're still together. We haven't been playing around much the past couple of years as we've been at university but we've started playing more recently and we're finishing a new album. There are a couple of videos...

I wanna hear some live recordings

Not exactly live and quite old now (4 years ago). Just something we recorded for a demo. Guitars just going through amps and the vocals through one PA cab. All recorded through a single Oktava MK219.

Microphone Picking Up Audio From Headphones

The only bleed that I find to be a problem is click track bleed and it's a real menace. It seems that no matter how careful i am, I still get some. I'm thinking of getting the drummer to track using in ear headphones covered with dt100s. This headphone leakage through guitar is something I...

    Recording DI bass guitar

I've almost finished recording a new album with my band (I say almost, it's taking us forever to finish). Anyway, all the bass on the album has been recorded through a blues deluxe (12" valve guitar amp) miked up with a single condenser mic (oktava mk219) right up against the cone. The signal...

    Tascam MS16 problem

Mine were all replaced with the same relays. The old ones that came out were different (I think one had more shielding than the other)

    Virtual guitar amps/analog guitar amps

I don't agree with the idea that there are loads of terrible sounding amps. I can usually plug into pretty much any amp and have it sound alright. Not amazing, but alright. Although I have heard a lot of guitarists with terrible guitar sounds. I'm not entirely sure how they get them but they...

    Virtual guitar amps/analog guitar amps

I completely agree. Most of this thread has been talking about top end valve amps vs sims but I would also much rather have a small transistor amp than a sim. In fact, most of the time I play live with a Sessionette 75. It's not the best sounding amplifier but it sounds quite good and it's...

    Snare Mic Help

I usually find that pointing the mic directly at the rim gives me the best sound with the most pop. About 2" away from the rim. Then adding compression with a slow attack increases the pop significantly.
