    mic to tame that piccolo

A mic cannot pick up what isn't there to begin with. Try a different drum, different heads, different tuning first. Imo, if you want a fat snare sound, get a fat sounding snare drum.

    RNC vs. RNLA

FWIW, I owned both and sold the RNC. It's a good compressor, but I prefer the sound of the RNLA for those situations where I want to track with compression. If I were using them for mixing in the analog realm, my opinion might be different.

    acoustic-electric guitar for a beginner

    1. Does it have to be acoustic-electric? The electronics in a cheap A/E aren't really worth the increased price, imo. You'd be better off spending the difference on a nicer guitar. Since you're just learning, I'm presuming you won't be gigging with it. If you need to use it live, mic it or buy a...

    Wanting to build home studio

This is a huge question. First, you need to tell us what your budget is, what types of things you will be recording, and what type of room(s) you will be recording in. Also, try the search feature, as this question is frequently asked.

    My next cymbal

Definitely check out the K Customs. The Fast Crashes and Session Crashes are a little more shimmery, but still tonally complex. The Dark Crashes are great, but might be a little gongy for you. I also like the 18" A Custom Fast Crash. The one I have is fast and bright when struck hard, but has a...

silly question but need the answer lol

That unit appears to be a phantom power supply only, not a preamp. At the bare minimum, you should look at the ART Tube MP or Behringer MIC100 preamp with phantom power. The mic connects to the pre with an XLR-XLR cable and then, depending on the preamp outputs, would connect to your soundcard...

There is a plugin called TapeStop that will do that. I think it's only VST though; no ProTools version, unless you have a wrapper.

    best cubase sx3 reverb plugins

If you're referring to the reverb plugins that come included with cubase, I'd say none. There are far better free VST reverbs out there and, if you're willing to pay a little, quality can go up even further. For freebies, check out: Glaceverb Kjaerhus Classic Reverb SIR - download some of the...

    headphones: ATH-M20 & ATH-D40 vs Sony MDR-7506 vs Samson CH700

What will you be using them for? If you get the AT, I'd suggest the ATH-M40fs, as opposed to the D-40, as they have a flatter frequency response.

    inexpensive input hub

The M-Audio Fast Track USB is cheap, but I couldn't tell you if it is "good" or not. Plus, I don't think it has phantom power, so it would not work for a condenser mic without an external phantom supply. You might also want to look into the Line 6 Toneports.

Neumann TLM 49 vs. S.E. Electronics Gemini vs. AKG 414

The "best" mic in the world is useless if it doesn't suit your voice. Figure out your budget and go test out a bunch, or find a shop with a good return policy that will let you take a few home and return the ones you don't like.
