I am not qualified to answer your entire question. I do know that Vocal talent has little to do with cutting though the mix. That is more about recording technique, Eqing and mixing. Although, my songs DO sound like crap, I am making headway, I have found that a lot of compression, in 2 steps...

Good Voice, a little like REM. Nice and pop. I like the string/violin solo but it could use some more space and reality to it. The lead vox is a strong feature here, but i would like to hear more of it. I also find that a little dead sounding. Good work, keep it up. Sean
