    Reel-to-Reel not recording

Naah, it can prevent channels from recording or playing back. Each channel on the head may be only microns wide (depending on number of channels). Doesn't take much to lose a channel. I used to work on 24 channel voice loggers, and we cleaned the heads and recorded test tone every 24 hours at...

    Reel-to-Reel not recording

Have you cleaned the heads (esp. the recording head) ? May seem like a no brainer, but I got a Technics 1506 years ago for half of what the guy wanted because the heads were dirty (and he didn't know he had to clean them ... :p ). Pure isopropyl alcohol (90%) - NOT rubbing alcohol. Good luck.

3 Saddle to 6 Saddle Bridge.

Yes, I replaced the 3 saddle bridge on my '76 tele when I was in Japan. Just went to the store, bought one in black, unscrewed the old, screwed in the new (same holes, new screws), restrung, set the intonation and presto, a well intonated tele ! Kept the old one (of course) if I ever have to...

    My collection of guitar tunings

Hmmm, haven't been able to find anything (video, etc). Will see what I can do. I haven't seen any tabs that have shown an alternate tuning either, but you can definitely tell from the song.

    My collection of guitar tunings

Hey, I like those, toyL - a few songs I always wondered about, but was too lazy to figure out  Now, you wouldn't happen to know Steve Hackett's tuning to "More Fool Me" on Genesis' Selling England by the Pound, would you ... ? :p

    Roland GR20

It's my understanding the GK 3 is an improvement, but how, I'm not so sure. I believe it is mainly physical, and how it attaches to the guitar as opposed to any specific electronic improvement in either the hex pickup or the 13 pin interface. But I could be wrong. Now, by "glitch", I assume...

    Roland GR20

The key to good results from a guitar synth is playing clean. So, yes, it may be able to track those Malmsteen riffs, but I can't tell ya for sure, 'cause I can't do them :p , you'd have to try it out. I've had a GR 50 since 93 or so, and have had a VG 88 for a couple years. I really enjoy...

    12 string DSP modeling

My Roland Vg-88 does a good 12 string rick straight out of the box, and with a little tweaking is much better. Problem is that it's not cheap, and I believe it works only with a synth enabled guitar (never tried it straight in on that patch ... hmmm). Will try tomorrow and let you know - maybe...

    Tuning a bass

Well, at this point, I wouldn't necessarily call myself a bass player (more of a "4 string abuser"), so I guess I'm ok. :D

    Tuning a bass

I just think we should all just memorize this and we'll be fine. :D

Looking for a bass to suit a guitarist

Looking for a bass to suit a guitarist

Just my $.02, as I was in the same boat as you (guitarist looking for a bass). Long story short, I gave up on short scale basses mainly due to the sound, and bought a 4 string Ibanez EDA 900 (Ergodyne) with the bridge piezo's, and one active P/U. The sound is phenomenal, and while not a short...

Am I the only person with A hohner Les Paul copy??

My buddy had one back in about '75. Black, looked virtually identical to a Gibson, other than the name. But the thing never stayed in tune - like Track Rat said - the neck felt really light, and would bend if you looked at it the wrong way. Worked well for all those blues jams, and stones...

    My new guitar !!!

Salvador Castillo's guitars will run you from about US$1000 to US$1800 (and up) depending on type of wood and style. The lower priced models are palo escrito (mexican rosewood), and the higher end models use imported woods. Well worth the trip, should you make it !

    My new guitar !!!

Just returned from a trip to Michoacan State here in Mexico - a little place known as Paracho, where the town survives on guitar building. Most of the guitars are cheap and mass produced, but there are a few luthiers that hand construct some amazing instruments. One of these is Salvador...

    1/2" and 1/4" ?

I have a Technics 1506 - very similar - It is one fantastic deck ! The vertical transport and single capstan were quite the technology at the time. I bought it used, and when we went to look at it, the guy admitted that there was a problem - one channel didn't play back. Sure enough, he was...

    Installing a delta 44???

Don't know what you mean by changing properties, but with my Delta 66 card installed, CEP saw it and was ready to use it with no tweaking or adjustment in the M-Audio control panel at all. I was up and recording in 5 minutes after install. YMMV :)
