    Privia Keybeds

Thanks guys!! Looks like I'm off to the store to see if I can A/B a 110/310 vs a 120/320. I'll report back!

    Privia Keybeds

I was working on some music with my cowriter last week and we were using one of her other writing partner's privia 310. I was SO impressed with the action given the price that I'm now on the market for one of my own. Does anyone know if all the privia models use the same keybed? I'd be using...

I still don't get the point of monitors

Yeah, what everybody has said is dead on. Monitors shouldn't "sound good." They should give you a detailed enough sound for you to tell whats going on in your project, while giving you a sound that will be very average compared to what your listeners will be listening on. The most popular...

    Newb confusion

If you're just using reason and not worrying about recording audio, the builtin soundcard will probably be fine. I run reason on my macbook with the builtin sound when I'm on the road and its no different than running through my mbox 2 pro. If you're wanting to actually record audio, you'll...

Do I have to use Digi Hardware?

Wait a minute! You have an 01V? Why not just use that as your front end into the 001 via ADAT? In my experience, the ADDA on it is good, and the pre's are pretty nice. You can probably also Midi into protools for a worksurface, no? In any case, something like converter quality won't play a...

    MIDI controller for drum beats

Buy "other midi" do you mean stuff that you would want a keyboard for? The m-audio axioms are midi keyboards with drum pads on them also. Pretty nice keys for semi-weighted. Good value used.

Has anyone replaced an 001 with non-Digi hardware?

Hmmm okay. Well then those apogee rosettas might be a good bet. As far as clocking... I don't think you'd notice an improvement in jitter by adding an external converter, regardless of quality. If anything it'd only get worse. If you really want to improve jitter in your digital system...

Yeah, go on your local craiglist and find yourself a used MBP with core 2 duo.

Has anyone replaced an 001 with non-Digi hardware?

The ensemble is a whole 'nother interface. You don't need it. I don't think you'd be able to use that simultaneously with the 001. You aren't looking for an entire interface. You just need a front end adat preamp type thing. Apogee doesn't really make anything like that, as their stuff is...

    Guitar Plug-in

Out of what I've used, I think amplitube 2 can get some very usable sounds. I like my pod xt better. I really think modelers have their place, especially when you're short on time or budget, but nothing beats a real amp.

Firewire 1814 users: How are you recording drums?

There's one less pre kicking in than in your signal chain for the front inputs.

    VST Host for OS X

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't garageband do vst?

    Non apple mac?!

Interesting...! Did you not like it because you just weren't down with the os, or did you have any performance issues or anything like that?

    Non apple mac?!

I guess... I've never tried to install osx on a pc, but apparently its pretty tricky. Lots of hardware compatibility issues. These guys do it for you with hardware that will be compatible with osx. That's the deal here. That, and the price. It's cheaper than the cheapest mac mini, with...

Which Naiant mic/how to record upright piano?

No prob! Another tip I've used for piano (along with many other instruments, but especially piano) is to just walk around the room and find out where the piano sounds best to you. Start off micing here. You might end up right on top of the piano, or across the room. This will ultimately help...

    Non apple mac?!

Well, these days, mac hardware is pretty much pc hardware... isn't it?? It's cheaper than the equivalent mac. So where is the "premium"? Also, I wouldn't necessarily call it "pirated osx" as you still have to buy leopard. Obviously, there's no way to tell how well it runs, stability etc...

    Creating CDs DIY

Honestly, I'd make sure my stuff is on itunes, then I'd burn/stomp some cdrs and put them in paper sleeves. In my experience, the kids buying cds at shows these days aren't buying it for the cd, they're buying it to support the band. If they actually use the cd, it'll be for the 30 seconds it...

    Non apple mac?!

Apparently this company http://www.psystar.com is selling a non apple computer running osx. It's looks like a mini tower and has pretty good specs and is selling for $400!!! Of course, this violates Apple's EULA, but if they somehow aren't shut down, this could be a great option for anyone...
