    what do you guys think?

In my opinion, the action on that m-audio is horrific. Just BAD. Check out the casio privia or some of the lower end yamaha pianos. If you do decide to go for the m-audio, why not get the keystation 88? It's the actual controller version of the prokeys and has no sound, but has all sorts of...

    CME keys

I didn't love the action of the cme uf8 when I tried one out in a store. How well it would perform as a controller for a motif? No idea. I've heard nightmares about getting drivers to work and such, but that probably wouldn't come into play as much with a hardware synth.

using outboard gear with digi 002

Why does it sound bad plugging directly into the 002's AD converters? You shouldn't need the world's best converters to do this. Do do this on an already recording track, just route an insert to an output on the 002, plug that output to the input on the compressor, then out from the compressor...

    locking effects....

Yup! It's a great way to manage voices on an LE or M-Powered system. Or even on an hd system if you're running out of processing power.

    Buying Keyboards

Yeah. I play really heavy style like ben folds and it seemed to hold up pretty well. I don't have any long term experience with them. Just used one that one of my co-writers had at their place over a weekend. Good keybed, good enough sounds. I just used it for midi and ran my reason piano...

    locking effects....

What I like to do here is buss to a new track and record through to the new track, then hide and make inactive the old track. This way its simple to go back and make a quick change if I'm not happy later.

Any way to get around the interface deal?

Word. Plus, you can easily get wave files in and out of protools. I'm not really sure what you're talking about there. Just shift-command-3 to consolidate regions and grab the wave files out of your audio folder. Easy enough.

Any way to get around the interface deal?

I'd really have to disagree with that. After switching from Sonar to pro tools and doing 101 and 110, I'd really have to say that the editing capabilities of pro tools surpass most similar programs out there. Now the way the company basically handcuffs users with hardware and extorts them in...

tips for playing guitar to a click for scratch tracks

build the drums with loops or midi with a drum vst. I almost always do a full on midi of a song before tracking, just as a guideline for musicians. Other than that? Practice!

Doubling tracking guitars for punk rock?

I'd turn up the treble knob on your amp. It just sounds too dark for the music. And like someone said, try doubling, but not layering. Also, turn the distortion down a bit.

Can I use a Digi003 with Cakewalk Sonar?

Ha! Well, other people's money is the way to go! In that case, you guys should be fine with the 003. As far as any online info about using 003 with different software, not sure, but I'm sure it can be done, as my mbox 2 pro works just fine with logic, reason, garageband, etc. I doubt you'd...

Can I use a Digi003 with Cakewalk Sonar?

It should be fine, but I think you'd get a better bang for your buck buying something else. The 003 only has 4 mic pres. The tactile surface is nice, but you'll have more input flexibility getting one of the 8 pre interfaces from presonus, for less money. Also, not sure how well the control...

    Macbook Pro firewire connections

I've heard that its a bad idea to use a firewire 400 interface going to a firewire 800 drive. The different speeds can cause jitter (clicks and pops). At least thats what I've heard.

    Privia Keybeds

Just got back from Long and McQuade's downtown toronto store. Unfortunately, they didn't have any Previa's in stock. I did try out pretty much every weighted keyboard they had, and my previous thoughts were pretty much reassured. All the keybeds I liked were hundreds, if not thousands more...

    Macbook Pro RAM upgrade question

If you're planning on using LOTS of softsynths, it'd probably a necessity. I've got 2gb and I'm running reason with reason pianos, abbey roads, and reason drum kits refills. If I have a patch from each of these running, it usually bogs my system down quite a bit, especially if I'm running...

Miley Cyrus song - Using Autotune?

I've heard that song. Yes, there is definitely some autotune going on there. In some ways, I think autotune is being used these days as an artistic tool. Maybe they were just going for that sound, as most dancy, poppy female singers have that sound nowadays. Considering her popularity and...

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to get down to the store, but I plan on doing it tomorrow!

    Privia Keybeds

Yeah, I can see how that could be an issue. This thing will be staying in my home studio 99.9% of the time though. Maybe a gig every so often, but very rarely. The number one thing for me is the action, and for what these things run, I haven't found anything that comes close.

    Privia Keybeds

hmm. Seems like all of those got snatched up already. It seems like most placing are clearing out 310's and 110's and have none left :(
