    fighting with this mix

I thought that was a nice song, I had trouble making out the vocals thru the guitar, but it could of been my speakers. great songwriting though, very unique and interesting.

"No Love" FIrst crack at mixing this

That song is pretty bad ass! Sounds amazing to me, except the cymbal crashes. I thought they seemed cheesy, and kind of out in left field. They didn't seem to fit with the vibe being set.

    Poring my heart out

I made a new version of this song, with different lyrics, and some harmony parts thrown in. I think it sounds good, but tomorrow may be a different story. It's still a work in progress, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    rock track, one man band

Sweet song, I thought it sounded professional. I would maybe bring the lead vocal up a little in the verses. But sweet song, great performance. You've got mad talent.

    Mixing head-scratcher

Man, that sounded sweet to me. I don't have experience with that type of music, but maybe you should just turn everything down so that the melody part shines through a little better. even if the overall level of the song is really quiet compared to your reference cd's, because those have...

Mix Even? Want some input- Hard Rock.

Those guitars rip shit up, they are awsome. Try to bring out some of the "click" sound in the kick drum, maybe a little more definition to the bass as well. I think the vocals could come up a notch too, but not too much. You want to keep those guitars sounding huge. Cool song too.

    Too Hot To Hold

I think the sound is good, at first I thought it sounded like Aerosmith, maybe a little less boom in the kick drum. I wasn't a huge fan of the arrangement of the song, I didn't feel like it took me anywhere, and I thought the drum playing was a little weak in laying the foundation and holding...

    Rock type song: Unity

That is a great tune! I really don't like the tone of that lead guitar though.

what can I do to improve this mix?

I like your guitars a lot, In the future I would have the drums play more simplified stuff and just lay the foundation, that will let the guitars come out more and make the sound more enjoyable and you don't need any new equipment for that. But you should get something like a used delta 1010...

    Poring my heart out

so true, it's weird how it sounds good when I'm making it, then the next day I listen and it sounds like crap. Yeah drums are the only thing I play. The rest I just slowly record off keyboard. That's the true test though, If you come back to a song after a few days and still like it, then it...

Which way is the best for gripping drum sticks?

Has anyone seen Billy Cobham, who ocasionally plays with the traditional grip in both hands? He will switch from matched to traditional, to left hander traditional, and then play with both sticks like the traditional grip. I love some of his work, but when I saw this on his video I just had to...

    Morgan Rose is the Man!

I also think Portnoy is amazing, his fills, the way he switches meter. Those are things that most others can't even understand. But when it comes to laying down a groove, I think that Morgan Rose can't be topped. He is so solid that the songs build off of him, like a solid foundation...

    Which Sticks Do You Use?

I love the Vic Firth Buddy Rich model, they are durable, cool tapered end, and most are perfectly straight - no warpage.

    Is 16 Tracks Enough?

I think 16 is more than enough. Unless you have amazing gear, the more tracks you add the more "mudd" you add to your sound.
