    GC blowing out Oktava

I've only heard of the Chinese controversy in relation to the MC-012's but who knows for sure?

    GC blowing out Oktava

As far as the MKL-2500 goes anyway, this ad specifically states "Hand built in Russia" http://www.guitarcenter.com/newsletter/getThis/products.cfm?sel=6&eid=14

    Budget overheads

This whole Oktava thing is unsettling. A pair of SP B1s would be a very healthy investment for little money.

is the Yamaha AW16G really that hard to use?

Hi. I have one and I didn't think it was very difficult to get the basic recordings down. However there are alot of features that aren't quite intuitive. There is a great user board at http://forum.dijonstock.com/ that can get you through the rough spots. PS The pres aren't so great...

    doubling tracks?

I use an AW16G too. Learn to use the paired tracks for sub-mixes. You can save the original tracks by switching to a different virtual track.

Could the problem be that you have the panning set all the way to one side?

mxl 603 matched pair (marketing confusion)

So then the question I would be asking myself would be "are the SP C4s for $300 a 'matched' pair?"

"The List"...so what are you wishing for?

I think they had the BX5s for $199 in the May mailout.

Which mics would give my small collection balance and versatility?

As already mentioned I think you'll get a lot of miles out of a couple of small condensers (overheads/acoustic guitars) and an SM7 or RE20 (vocals/kick).

    Digital Multi-Tracker

You'll get a few different answers but I'm very happy with my Yamaha AW16G.

mk 319 vs at 3035 opinions, Harvey?

I've seen it around here more than once that the SP C1 is a nice alternative to an MK319.

    Alternatives to Oktava MC012?

I think the consensus around these parts is that the 603s are better on acoustic guitar than as drum overheads. I think the SP C4 package is a pretty attractive one.

Guitar Center Oktava MC-012... no -10dB Pad anymore?

As far as I know, the MC-012 & MK-012 are/were the same and are/were both made in Russia.

Guitar Center Oktava MC-012... no -10dB Pad anymore?

Jeez, what a snakebit company. If I was starting out fresh I'd probably be looking at SP C4's.

Guitar Center Oktava MC-012... no -10dB Pad anymore?

Includes a 10dB pad for high SPL recording yeah, they must be using 'stock' text too!

Guitar Center Oktava MC-012... no -10dB Pad anymore?

If you scroll down on this you'll see the pad is both pictured and mentioned http://www.guitarcenter.com/newsletter/getThis/products.cfm?sel=6&eid=16

    My first condensor

I like the idea of 2 SDs for overheads/acoustic and 1 SD for vocals. The choices depends on your budget though.
