    Compression advice.

Thanks for that. I havent got unlinited time to keep going through take after take for the balance of the kit, as we are hiring the room for something like four hours. So really just a guideline for settings on the compressors would be what I am after. We are taping the live demo to a Teac reel...

I cant really do that as I am recording a live demo of the band, so the two tracks of the drumkit will have to do.

    Compression advice.

You recommend leaving compressing the drums until mixdown. How then could I do that having already recorded the full kit onto two tracks of the reel to reel? Would it be possible to compress individual drums? It sounds impossible. Intriguing.

You mention using high pass filters and rolling off frequencies. How exactly would I do this using the mixer and cheap equaliser that I own?

    Eq -ing drums to tape?

Thanks, but its just that I read quite a few things about cutting all the bottom end of your mix. They often advise to cut up to 50hz off everything but the kick and bass guitar to leave room for the mix to breathe. I just guessed that I would have to treat the Eq of each bit of the drumkit...

Can anyone advise me how to Eq drums onto tape? I want to record a demo of my band onto a Teac 80-8, with two tracks taking up the whole drumkit., leaving the remaining tracks for lead vocal, two guitars, bass, Backing vox. I understand you have to pan the drums to certain positions in the...

    Fostex Model 80 1/4" 8-track QUESTIONS

Yes I have the manual. I am assigning the tracks to be recorded by pressing the corresponding buttons, and pressing "play" and "record" at the same time the LEDs flash like they should. Playback shows nothing on the tape.

    Fostex Model 80 1/4" 8-track QUESTIONS

The connections are...Output of CD player into a small mixer into the rear inputs of the Fostex. Meter levels show theres an input signal on the Fostex. Phono leads out of the output of the machine into another small mixer. On playback of the "recording" theres nothing.

    Fostex Model 80 1/4" 8-track QUESTIONS

I also own a Fostex M80 but has a fault. The meters all light up fine when recording an input signal, but trying to play the tape back to listen to whats been taped results in no sound at all. Its like the machine hasnt recorded. Any ideas chaps?
