can MR8 achieve pro-quality spoken voice (for making language learning CDs)

maybe As far as portability, and ease of use the MR-8 will work fine for you. Transfering WAV files to the PC is a snap, but you have to download the wavmanager from Fostex to do this via USB. With an SM58 you will achieve good clarity, but will want to mic closely, I suspect. Be aware that...

    Chipset question

Thanks. I just wrote down what the rep told me. I'm pretty sure he just said 856g, but I could've misunderstood. It's easy to do when you don't know what you're talking about ;-) Anyway...thanks for the clarifycation, christiaan. Much appreciated.

    Chipset question

my computer specs Dell 4600, Intel Pentium 4 processor, 2.66GHz w/533MHz FSB. The Dell rep told me it has an 856G chipset, but I don't understand how that indicates if it is VIA, Intel, or something else. Couldn't find related info in the literature that came with the computer. Thanks for help.

    Chipset question

I am very new to PC recording and still trying to wrap myself around the more detailed info about computers in general. Can anybody explain chipsets to me in layman's terms and tell me how to determine what kind of chipset is in my computer. Or can you offer a link to an article that might help...

    still LOVE my 4-track!

Wow... ... so many options. Don't know how I'm ever going to decide which way to go. What I really wanna do is hook four 414's together, rig them up so that they send 16 separate tracks to a CD-R, and then mix down to my CD burner. Voila! My dream system! If only it were that easy... Thanks...

    Roland Studio Package Pro?

me too I'm also in the process of choosing an interface and have been researching the Aardvark Q10, but I am enticed by the other features of the Roland Studio Pack (especially the hands-on mixing part). Some feedback I've gotten on the Roland is that it is not very straightforward, a bit...

    Best card for recording drums

another question Hope you guys don't mind me jumping in here with a question. You've mentioned two of the sound cards that I have been considering: the Aardvark Q10, and the Delta 44. But this is where I get confused about tracking drums to the PC and I'm hoping for some clarification. Once I...

    still LOVE my 4-track!

upgrade memory later?? hey dejacky, This question will show what a newbie I am to PC's, but...is upgrading to 1 GB of memory from the 512 something that I can do in the future? How difficult/expensive will it be? Chances are I will be using only maybe 8-12 total tracks most of the time, but I...

    still LOVE my 4-track!

my specs: I have an Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 2.66 GHz, 512 MB of active memory at 333Mhz , 70 GB of storage. It is 7200rpm. I tried to do my homework on this and it seemed it would serve my purposes just fine. I just downloaded the trial version of nTrack and look forward to trying it...

    still LOVE my 4-track!

4 tracks simultaneously?? I totally agree that fewer mics on the kit is usually best. I've just been limited to one track for drums for a long time. I'm pretty sure I can only record two simultaneous tracks with my tascam!? It's the standard 414. But I've been wanting to try using it as you...

    still LOVE my 4-track!

Where things are for now... Thanks SubA , for listening and for the kind words! dejacky, so far I haven't made any final decisions about how I will ultimately do my tracking. I think what I'm striving for is the best of both worlds - a way to take my years of experience with analog/portastudio...

    How loud is 85 db?

Hey, mixmkr Wouldn't that be "YELL that to Pete Townshend"??? He's almost deaf!!! And, now that it's too late for him, he strongly advocates that musicians protect their hearing.

Mixing With Real Faders on PC ?

THANKS for the input To clarify: I desire 8 channels in/out, because acoustic drums are my main instrument and I will want at least four mics on the drumkit. I don't really want to pre-mix the drums because I want control of the drum mix in the final mixdown. Plus, I would like the option of...
