    Md 441

I just bought a used MD 441, for 175€ !! I tried it out this morning, and it really kicks ass, espacially on toms, snare and git amp. Compared it with my sm57 and there's really a world wide difference. It does have a very low output tough, not that the noise is dominant, but it does give some...

    guitar tone tricks

I'm using a marshall anniverserie mostly these days, ... no matter what genre, or sound i'm looking for, i mostly end up with putting my B1 infront of one speaker, 2" away, little bit off accis. I suggest you put every mic on a stand, solo one mic and send it trought a headphone while playing...

    Micing up drums

You should use a headphone and a drummer (a monkey might do aswell). Solo your snare on your mixing board, make your drummer slap the snare (tak, tak, tak, ...) and place the mike where it sounds best. Mostly that's above the rim, 1 inch higher, pointed at the middle of your snare. Do exactly...

    Unbalanced/Balanced

On a balanced signal, you've got a + which is positive relativly to the ground, the - is 90° phase flipped relativly to the +, so your - is negative relativly to the ground. On an unbalanced signal, there's only a +, positive relativly to the ground. (at least that's what I understand about it)...

    Mixing Bass

Also, don't forget that it's better (in my opinion, and lots of others) to eq/compress/... your bass in the total mix, rather than solo'ing it. You'd be suprised if you hear some basslines solo'ed from some fine mixed albums. -greetz

    Unbalanced/Balanced

I'm talking 'bout 3 to 4 metres, i use the patchbay for routing my channels from mixer to my soundcard, I do somethimes use external preamps to go directly to my soundcard (i dindn't see them as outboard, my mistake maybe) I could shorten the distance, if i could get a hand on an extension cable...

    Unbalanced/Balanced

Hi, My soundcard's inputs (terratec EWS88) are unbalanced and my mixers outputs (i'm using the inserts, to pick up a seperate signal from every channel) are unbalanced aswell. Is it recommended to use a patchbay to route my channels? It's very convinient, but I don't know about quality loss a...

    Looking For Warmth

I think Kevlar's question wasn't really THAT stupid, like a preamp doesn't infect the way a microphone sounds, now THAT was a stupid answer. I think if you'de buy a new preamp that willl give you more warmth to your sound, you wont be any cheaper then the T-3. A b-1 is very good budget mic...

    Setting up my headphone-amp (Pt2)

Main outputs or bus outputs are mostly balaIanced, so you can use TRS. If your using your inserts, you won't need TRS but TS, as they mostly are unbalanced outputs. I think it's not a bad Idea, though I personally choose to use my aux on my mixer for monitoring. btw, headphone monitoring is not...

    shure sm 58s dented tops

Maybe the tops don't bent that fast but i 'm sure you can trow your sm58 about a hundred times on the floor, replace the top and you still get a "brand new mike" don't try that with the sennheisers :) I think thats acctually the biggest reason why people use the sm58 above the e8x5. That's what...

    Bitrate

Is the difference between 16bit and 24bit so audible ? I've heard several opinions on it but never understood why it would, as I (and i guess most people) burn it to cd afterwards. I'd like to get some more info about this :) if my question has been asked a thousand times before, i must say that...

    Recording Onto A Laptop

The built in soundcards are moastly crappy and there mic preamps are specially designed for computer mics and are even crappyer. You should best go with an usb or firewire "soundcard". (http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/cat--Audio-Interfaces--2418) as you can't install a pci card in a laptop...
