I love my firepod. I got a mac mini mounted in the bottom of the rack box, so its all portable. I need to work on getting some monitors, but for now, I use headphones for tracking, and some small harmon kardon powered crap speakers for mixing.
Thanks for the information. It might have been overdriven, I was running a mic pre into the penta, I will try backing that out, or bypassing it and going straight through. I guess its input stage is pretty finicky.

I would try the at2020 over and work it to capture the snare. Use the 57 for the kick on track two, but I dont think I would combine the 609 and the at together. That could reek havoc when mix down approaches. It will take some work, but you can get a really good snare sound with that...
