Reducing Ambients In My New ROom

Hi Tony - Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what you mean by "ambients"... can you explain it better? Also, a drawing of the room layout will help. Kevin.

    question about smpte

Androbmeda - Does your desk support automation on any level? What mixer do you have? Normally when you have a console that supports automation, you stripe SMPTE code to one track of your tape and run the automation during playback (perhaps through a SMPTE to midi converter) using the striped...

    Breaking into analog

I agree with Jake... you can probably do better. I'm not sure what you budget is but if no one bids on this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2550165058&category=41480 ... maybe you can make the guy an offer. What is the width of the tape on the Otari? Do the tracks/in math...

Using mineral wool to deaden but keeping it covered well.

Mounting it on the wall and keeping people from running into it seem like two different problems. :D To mount it on the wall, you can make a wood frame around it and hang it, or screw through it with bumper washers etc... Kevin.

Using mineral wool to deaden but keeping it covered well.

Covering the mineral wool with a thin layer of batting first (1/4" works OK) then a fabric works well. http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=25003&PRODID=60088 Kevin.

    How dirty cheap are you?

My wife keeps calling the studio "Trash picked sound" because of all the stuff I (and she!) have hauled home from the curb & dumpsters. Doors, office partitions (as gobos), guitar amps, wood etc.. She grabbed a couple of teak chairs a guy who was moving had put out for pick up, re-covered the...

Any studio builders want to share...

I'd say it 50-50 between cabling and finish wood work. Yeah, it took me 3 weekends and a few late nights soldering and making cable harnesses but I still haven't finished all the detail woodwork... especially once things became functional :) Kevin.

    Vacation Photos

We took a trip back in July that looped through Nashville and Memphis. I only had time to drive up and down Music Row in Nashville but we did take the Sun Studio tour in Memphis. Music Row was cool, I've never seen that many studios in one place before... wild! [Lots of "For Rent/Lease" signs...

    Exporting to SD2 format?

Hello - I have a client that asked if I could export from Sonar to Sound Designer 2 (SD2) format. I belive this is a format used under ProTools on a MAC. I took a quick look at the export menu but did not see anything. Anyone know how to do this? Can AIFF files be converted somehow to SD2...

    Studer Pricing (?)

Frederic - If I remember right, you were/are/will-be in the process of building a commercial space in a very cool vacant building that you own and have the mortgage covered by a machine shop next door... phew :) Why not keep the Studers as an option there? What ever you sell them for, it will...

    Cable management

It's OK if mic cables touch each other and if they run parallel etc... the biggest thing to watch for is running mic cables parallel to AC power cables (extension cords) for more then a couple of feet. That can induce some 50/60HZ hum. Kevin.
