General RFC - what makes a song "Good"

I think you have missed some critical points like (in no particular order): - Emotion & Honesty - Performance - Vibe / feel All are intangible for sure but I think they are more important then many of the items you listed. Many many bands have written songs based around 3 chords & "she left...

    Hanging carpet, blankets?

Well, they don't have to be mic stands... a couple of 2x4's with some sort of base attached would work OK too. Like John said, the main thing is to get them off the wall 6" or so. Kevin.

    Hanging carpet, blankets?

You can get a couple of extended mic stands (or something similar) with a bar across them and hang the carpet from the bar. Like this (side view): Kevin.

    Longsoughtfor update!

I got it in Nashua. It is in the drywall section right next to the tools and metal studs. There is another place I found that can source both the RC and 703 (rockwool too) called "Dana Wallboard" they are in Tyngsboro (off Rt113, two exits up Rt3 from me). Kevin.

    Longsoughtfor update!

Hi Luis - I belive John got those figures from this site: http://www.us.bpb-na.com/wall_panel_products.html They are a different company from the one that makes the Celotex stuff I have on my ceiling (and is available from Home Depot.) Kevin.

    Music Biz Software

If you can wait a little while, there is an effort going on through this thread to write a suite that would be freely available. https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67754 Kevin.

    Studio Marketing

Here are some ideas I have had in addition to word of mouth, web etc... I printed free buisness cards ( http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/bcfree.asp?gp=1%2F10%2F2003+8%3A29%3A35+AM ) for my son and 20 something neighbor... they distribute to any band they see... they definitly get out more then...

    which mogami cable...

I have a spool of the Mogami console cable and would not recommend it for patch cables. It is not made for the abuse that patch cables take. I'd go wth the mic cable. my $0.02 anyway... Kevin.

Anyone built a producers desk? suggestions...

Hi cajonezzz - I'm afraid I don't have any plans for a producers desk, but I assume you mean a desk/table that goes behind the mix position somewhere? Would the three bays be facing forward or back? You can find a few plans for console desks and other furniature here...

Definitly check out the SAE site above - it will teach you everything you need to know. I think there is even a plan for a similar size/shape room there. Hey - Welcome to homewreckers! This board is a great place to ask question when you get stuck. Kevin.

    Got Carpet!

Right I have a floating plywood floor so I just put them on top. Isolation is good. I don't remember the glass thickness but they are double paned. They are mid range sliders ~$600 each... you can go nuts and get up $2000 each for sliders but that was just not in my budget. Kevin.
