    Home Studio Recording Hobbyist

I would check out the mackie onyx i mixers. They will give you conversion on all channels both ways (analog to digital and digital to analog).

How much did you pay for your most expensive axe?

I have spent around $1900.00 on a new Gary Moore Sig. Les Paul when they came out. I will most likely never get rid of it. I don't give a shit for Gary Moore, but out of all the les pauls in the shop less than 2 g's it was my favorite in look and sound. It has the burst bucker. I have always...

    Flanger alternative?

get a bigger pedal board and add another. THe eventide stuff is got to be cool but any multi-fx whatevers less than that is going to suck. I personally have used the mxr/dunlop flanger. It has the regen knob. Very cool.

    Audio Interface Question

your soundcard wants a analog input. It is an interface from analog to digital. I doubt you find anything you are looking with that budget.

    Audio Interface Question

Yes, they usually come in 2 or 8 channels. The number of channels = the number of mics you can simutaniously record at the same time.

    Acoustic Guitar Recording 101

very cool post. I have always saw the need for an acoustic guitar stand that holds the guitar in the playing position. Especially for the homerecording artist, because sometimes you need to get up to tweak this or or that or better yet go to take a piss and not have to worry about...

    Drum kit Recording/ Audio Interface

For a typical 8 channel interface for your needs, I would suddgest a firewire, or pci interface. As far as speed It is really of no concern. Stability of these devices (driver issues mainly) will vary. Sonic quality will only vary in big price jumps. Since you have the mic pre's on...

Just how lo-fi can lo-fi get?

I have heard some of my younger sister-in-laws music and she claims one or two groups as "lo-fi". I had a listen and it's pretty much a mono mix, but a decent mix tracked with good mics and mic pre's. There are so many angles you can look at to artistically "lo-fi". You could use a pawn shop...

    Upgrading hard drive

I pretty sure you will not hear and sonic qualities in upgrading the hard drive or ram. It will improve stability, which is very important. To improve the audio you will have to upgrade the front end (mic, pre, or interface).

I've come to the conclusion that a studio sound is only found in ... a studio

I think the Aerosmith lyric comes to mind but replace the word "life" for "recording". "Life's a journey not a destination" It takes a little money (for a high school student that means a lot of money). Patients and the abitlity to learn.

    Audio Interfaces

That small. I would look at the firebox. I have used it. Stability is good. Its the only small unit I have used. Quality is average. No reason you can't make good recordings. I have owned the Maudio 1010 and it had stability issues and average quality. I use an RME Multface II now. It is...

Digital recording of church worship and sermon

I;ll tell you what I do at my church. I put a firewire card in the PC and I use a presonus firebox (cubase LE came with it). It has two mic pre inputs and two line inputs. I feed one of the line inputs from the lapel mic direct out from the board. I put two large diaphram condenser mics in...

Digital recording of church worship and sermon

I have the same vlz. I would use one of the 1-8 channels for the mic and use it's respective direct out to feed your interface. Take out anything inbetween. That board has plenty of routing options. The mic input is a problem. I would get a small interface like the firebox or the tascam you...

    Audio Over LAN

Im sure your adat solution would work as long as the software on both machines recognize its respective adat I/O. You could just hand pic the wav file for the track and copy and paste it into the PC though a network or transfering it via external hard drive. Buffalo makes a link station that...
