What;s even better is a mixer that has control room outputs seperate from your main outputs. This way you can adjust your monitoring level while leaving your main output at the proper level for going back into a DAW or where ever . This is very useful when mixing "out of the box". I make sub...
Microphone + Microphone Preamp + Interface (two channel would be fine) + PC or Mac + DAW Software (Reaper, Cubase, Protools, etc...)
They make Mic Preamp Interface combos that would probably suit you just fine like a Presonus FireBox or the USB version of that for PC.
That's what you need...
Most of the drummers I have recorded cannot play with a click. It just confuses the hell out of them. If your a homerecording mofo then you can get use to playing with a click I imagine because of having the time alone and equipment to do it.
I will also add that not playing with a click can...
If you have a drummer and a guitar player why not just isolate the two but put the guitar in the monitor mix and only record the drums. If there are enough A/D channels then go ahead and record the guitar at the same time.
If your laying down drums first without a click it is good to have the...
Yep the DAW has to know what drivers to use. It sounds like you have done that. Or maybe try other drivers that are in the list.
In cubase you have to enable inputs and outputs.
Then For the audio track you have to assign an input to that track.
I would record a real kit but I just dont have the room. I bought a oxygen 8 midi keyboard controller and it came with Reason Adapted, which is a stripped down version of Reason. It has a drum section called redrum and it also has alot of synth stuff. I still use it mainly for making click...
With any synths or drum loops I tend to stay away from compression or eq. I just never hear the need for it. If your using mic'ed instruments along with synths in the mix, then typically the synths are going to have a more well defined shaped raw track.
I have added delay or reverb to synth...
If you want outboard processing on a single channel, why not just mix out of the box? Breakout 8 or 16 channels D/A to a mixing board. Is it really worth processing one channel and returning to the daW if your mixing in software?
This is another reason I advise people to use a small format mixer even for mixing in the box. Find a small mixer that has control room outputs or just the regular main outs to feed your monitors/headphones. I too made the mistake starting out of not understanding the difference between the...
I was a teenager during that time. I was a pumpkins fan . I know the russian big muff pi was used exclusively on "Siamese Dream". Billy Corgan also layered the piss out of guitar tracks to get that sound.
Also checkout the Melvins album "senial animal" or "nude boots" I know for sure they panned the different kits left and right. You gotta be spot on though or It will sound like a disaster.
I had an LR baggs transducer put in a Martin DX-1. A volume wheel was installed right inside the sound hole edge. The trasnducer is great for getting that pick attack. I will blend it coupled with a mic for recording. Of course the mic is going to capture the sound from the body of the...
A DS-1 is really over the top. It's actually too much even at moderate settings. When I say over the top I mean intense not smooth.
THe tube screamer is going to have a better tone. It is not as wild.
Ive read reviews on the Deltlabs Tube Driver which is a TS-9 knockoff. I personally haven't...
I would agree that for the big distorted sound that a 12" speaker is better. I think it's going to depend on the amp and speaker type to decide mic placement. It's best if your not sure to record samples of different placements and go listen back to back to decide.
