i've never had/used any of their gear. back in the '70s and '80s i used to get their catalogues and drooled over most of their stuff but never got any. always had fender, gibson, peavey, etc. i used to always want one of their larger reinforcement setups. but now that i'm no longer a player...

back in the day when i used to do this stuff, i'd 'write' the song on guitar, get with a/the drummer; the 2 of us would practice the sh*t out of it/them; then, the 2 of us playing together, i'd record guitar onto one track and drums, submixed to mono, onto a second track of my akai 4 track...

i remember having a tascam brochure (wish book!) in march '79 and it featured the 85-16B. whether or not it was actually available at that time, don't know.

LOL! 1-i feel no 'social pressure' to do anything. 2-i don't play those sticky shed tapes very often, maybe once or twice a year. so it's not a problem. if i had to do it every day then it would be a problem.

if you're using old sheddy tapes, they can clog up the heads, guides, etc in a matter of a few minutes. you gotta clean them all with 91% isopropyl alcohol on q-tips and keep them clean always! ya gotta check for the gunk every few minutes and clean it off. very important, that. failure to do...

true dat. i gotta bad habit. i like all the music on my old tapes, even those tapes with bad 'SSS'. and i insist on playing them. so i refuse to dump those bad tapes if they got good tunage on them. so i play them anyway and have accepted that i'll just have to constantly clean the...

yep. thoroughly clean the heads and guides with isopropyl alcohol on q-tips. and keep them spotless. usually helps. with older tapes, it needs to be done very frequently. i clean after every tape play/pass. sometimes even in the middle of a tape play/pass, even more than once.

it's for rich folks. which leaves me out, unfortunately.:( :D

i had very good luck with a couple of peavey mixers, power amps, and pa spkrs back in the late '70s to late '80s. none of them ever failed. oh. except for a tweeter in one of the spkrs after about 10 yrs of hard use.

mci was a MAJOR player back in the day. i remember them all the way back to '73 when i got into recording. they had been around before that. they did recorders and boards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCI_%28audio%29 mci founder 'jeep' hamed and some of his products (board and recorders)
