Just picked up this Tascam Corporation Model 10 – anyone here familiar with it?

I recommend you pay the price to get the manual. I know of no Model 10 documentation available online, and I’m pretty resourceful in this area. And I e not seen an OEM manual come up for sale before. This is a rare chance. If you are committed to the console I would not pass up the opportunity...

Same one I linked in post #10 I believe…also with strong encouragement to the OP to grab it if they didn’t already have the manual.

I’ll repeat an unaddressed point/question I’ve raised more than once so far: do you have the service manual? You’re having multiple signal flow issues with a console that has very poor user community support, because A. there aren’t a lot in use these days and B. they are not popular. I hope...

Rescuing a Forgotten Ampex AG 440B Mono and perhaps 2 more...

Step 1 is to replace the plug-in relays on the transport control box. IIRC there are four of them…standard “ice cube” relays. Replace all of them with new. This will save yourself a mad amount of chasing your tail.

    Tascam 34B vs TEAC A3440

    I never had an A-3440. I referred to a 3340S.

    Tascam 34B vs TEAC A3440

Noise: don’t assume it’s a design issue. The A-3440 is many years older than the 34B…have either been recapped? My hunch is a power supply recap would help in either case, and the A-3440 may be in a worse state. Both units feature audio power supplies with discrete regulation adequate global and...

    Tascam 34B vs TEAC A3440

I can’t say for sure…both machines use the 4558 and 4559 opamp…what I’ve learned from experience is the playback amp plays a key role in the sound of a machine, and what I do see on a somewhat macro level that’s different between the two is on the 34 the playback signal goes through a signal...

A couple other points about the M-2600…plenty of AUX busses with some flexibility in signal path source points…8 mono/stereo returns in the master section with great routing flexibility…great for monitoring or sourcing of effects returns, playback devices, etc…and a completely independent stereo...

Rescuing a Forgotten Ampex AG 440B Mono and perhaps 2 more...

I’ve owned an AG-440B-8, AG-440B-1, AG-440C-4, and currently own an MM-1000, which uses what is essentially AG-440B signal electronics (you called them “preamps”, but they are not preamplifiers…they are strictly line amplifiers…there is a plug-in transformer that allow them to source mic-level...

Just picked up this Tascam Corporation Model 10 – anyone here familiar with it?

The EQ on the Model 10 has much more simple architecture…the switchable frequency points are limiting, but also can help avoid non-linear anomalies or phase distortions that swept type EQ filters, especially in budget products, often include. So it might work better for you. For a lot of other...

Just picked up this Tascam Corporation Model 10 – anyone here familiar with it?

I would have to agree with RRuskin. The Model 10 feels more “serious” in its construction because it’s 20 years older than your M-2600, and was modeled after other consoles at the time…that’s 20 years worth of “value-engineering” reversed…but the Model 10 wasn’t nearly as robust as period...

To the OP, please, please don’t take my feedback/opinions/words as discouragement or shaming or anything. You have the console and it’s worth getting it working. I’ve never found online versions of the manual and tech docs. I strongly encourage you to grab this: https://ebay.us/m/LSXpzP It’s...

Just picked up this Tascam Corporation Model 10 – anyone here familiar with it?

I only have the brochure…no manual. What can tell from pics online is it is all discrete solid state opamp based (so no chips, but discrete opamps). I wish I had schematics. The mic amp is unbalanced…no transformer or anything. It is vintage budget. The linear faders were a relatively rare...

Could it have been a little later than that? The Model 10 was not introduced to the world until the 1973 AES show in New York.

    Weak/No output on Tascam 48-OB

Yeah I would not be starting with the relays. And regardless K1 and K2 are not the relays I’d be looking at…those relays have to do with controlling signal during recording and sync vs repro output. K3 and K4 pass signal to the outputs…they are muting relays which mitigate thump in the...

Presonus Studio 1824c Audio Interface - Independent Output Channel Count

I don’t know, man…maybe I’m not tracking, but I am seeing nothing in the manual that indicates you cannot feed whatever you want into the 8 different D/A channels…yes the outputs 1 & 2 are linked with the main L/R outputs, but what those parallel outputs source is defined your computer-based DAW...

Presonus Studio 1824c Audio Interface - Independent Output Channel Count

You’re not bound to have a mix on 1 & 2. You can assign a mix to any pair of the 8 outputs. But if you want to take advantage of the attenuation and mute controls as well as the headphone 1 amp carrying your mix, then you assign your mix to 1 & 2. You’re thinking about it like your mix can only...

Presonus Studio 1824c Audio Interface - Independent Output Channel Count

You bought what you bought, it has the features it has, and the manufacturer doesn’t hide those features. The 1824c has 8 analog output channels. We can spend all day questioning why it only has 8, but the reality is it has 8 because that’s the way it was designed. Not everything has everything...

Presonus Studio 1824c Audio Interface - Independent Output Channel Count

Yes. 100%. Can’t verify because, though I have some Presonus gear and really like it, Presonus is one of the worst as far as making available any technical documentation. @sumitsimlai to your question, here again you can realign your thinking…it’s not why are only two channels sent to the main...

Presonus Studio 1824c Audio Interface - Independent Output Channel Count

So are you basically wanting to connect 8 audio streams from your DAW project to an analog mixer for analog summing or something like that? I read through the manual and I think you just need to realign your thinking a little. Yes the headphone 1 and main L/R outputs parallel line outputs 1 &...
