    Advice on buying new gear

I don't know. Have you ever used one? The mic pres are not world class to be sure, but they are pretty decent; a lot better than any Mackie's. Throw in its capabilities for compression, effects, routing, monitoring and surface control, and its pretty darn efficient.

    Advice on buying new gear

First thing I'd do is scrap that Behringer mixer. Look for a USED Yamaha O1V mixer. You'll have a bank of decent pres, 16 inputs, and a host of usable effects. With a simple midi interface, you can use the O1V as a control surface for Cubase as well. It wouldn't be a bad idea to look into a...

    Console Table Construction

I know this guy that must be a world class welder. I don't know what kind of welding it is, but it uses a flame and a rod. You had to heat the rod up in some sort of oven before starting, but when he was done, his welds looked like stack of dimes that had been knocked over. Pretty impressive!

phantom power not making it thru wallplates

When I wired up my wall plates, I tested them before installing them into the walls. As I was doing new construction, this was simple to do. I'm guessing you have something wired up wrong. If you're doing a lot of connections, its easy to get things mixed up.

    Keyboard stands . . .?

I use the "Quik-Loc" stands. They're light weight, portable, and sturdy.

    Cheap studio construction

Why would you pour money into something that you could never own and is clearly against all regulations of the lease?

Listen to MXL V67 on Grand Piano

Man, that'd be great! I'd love to hear more of what you two are doing. Grand piano's are just beasts to mike well. Each piano, room, environment, voicing, tuning.... everything, is going to have an impact on it. I have a 7'-2" Boston that I love! It's REAL warm and.... woody sounding...

Listen to MXL V67 on Grand Piano

Comparing a Yamaha to a Steinway is like comparing a Ferrari to a Maseratti. Personal taste will ultimately be the deciding factor. For me, Yamaha's are simply too bright. And of course, a lot of the deciding factor depends on the style of music being played too.

Listen to MXL V67 on Grand Piano

Nice recording. LDC's can produce a really rich, lush tone, that's full and warm, and can exhibit all those qualities we strive for. But this recording seemed to lack just a bit of lower frequency or bass detail. Now, it could be the piano. Yamaha's are notoriously bright instruments. Or, it...

    Midi-keyboard advice

Well, I'm a piano player so, a couple of points: 1.) I wouldn't get anything with less than 88 keys - Why have the limitation of less? 2.) I use a Fatar Studio 90, which is a midi controller. It has no internal sounds. I run that thru a Roland JV 2080 sound module with expansion boards. The...

    TLM 103 neuman

I have a pair of TLM 103's and a Studio Projects T3. The 103's are great for a lot of stuff, I've even used it on vocals. The T3 seems to excel at vocals though, especially female vocals. But if I were looking for ONE good, all around vocal mike, in the $500 - $1000 range, I'd go for a Shure...
